Title: Facts strongly suggest that this Bucky season was bad in many ways
Post by: moomoo on April 07, 2015, 08:25:11 AM
I feel compelled to write that I really have no ill will towards Bucky nation. I'm not from wisconsin and never got caught up in the rivalry. I also have tremendous respect for their academics and sports programs. Lastly, while I do find it comical how threatened they always seem to be about Marquette academics and sports, I'm old enough to realize that it is a minority of badger alumni who feel and act this way.

But here are some opinions that demonstrate this season was not as good to the program as some might think:

1) They were the favorites in the finals, had a big lead in the second half, and they let the game slip through their fingers.  Ouch. Got so far with nothing to show for it.

2) Bo Ryan perpetuates his reputation as a classless, whiner by undermining the officiating the first chance he gets in the post game press conference. Espn and Fox Sports both pick up the story.

3) Bo Ryan takes an obvious jab at the "one and dones" and suggests he doesn't want players like that. Completely hypocritical (Diamond Stone) and not exactly a smart move from a recruiting perspective.

4) Speaking of Diamond Stone, too many Wisconsin fans shred this nice young man for choosing Maryland, and some who are supposedly very close to the program strongly insinuate that he wasn't smart enough to get into the school. This has led to Diamond cheering when Wisconsin loses last night. Oh, and I almost forgot, Bo's daughter allegedly got in on the action. Again, not a great recruiting move.

5) Wisconsin misses out on the two best recruits to ever come from its home state in a single year. And one goes to its Jesuit rival not too far away.

6) Boston Globe slams Wisconsin graduation rates of athletes, especially minority athletes.

7) USATODAY runs a story on Wisconsin not hiding from its "white reputation", whatever that means. Is that good for recruiting?  I would want my program to be known as recruiting players, not colors.

8) They lost to Duke, which indirectly casts a positive light on its former coaches, including the one working in Milwuakee.

Wisconsin had a great team with great kids. And Wisconsin is very good school.

But there seems to be a lot of bad vibes coming out of Madison in my opinion. Take the high road, Badger Nation because you are too good a school not to.

Really? I would take 2 final four appearances in a row and a trip to the national championship game right about now.

They went to the national championship game and a second consecutive final four.  They had a great season.  The spotlight that comes along with success and expectations has shown a few blemishes, but there is no way that discredits their season.  Looking back after the school year, the blemishes will fade and this will likely be remembered as their golden age of hoops.  Did you mean to write that in teal?

Gotta give props to Bo and the Badgers where it is due.

They made it to the national championship game with a bunch of 3-star recruits and gave a team loaded with Burger Boys everything they could handle.

Let's not get carried away, Decker was a 5-star, Hayes and Koenig were 4-stars, and they had plenty of talent.  Where's butchbadger to protect us from all the false narratives?

Where was this?

Where was this?
Bo's daughter tweeted that Stone wasn't admitted to UW. This seems to be false. Also racist tweets about white basketball.

They won the B1G regular season, B1G tournament, number one seed, consecutive Final Four, came close to winning the title, national POY, 36-4.  There may be some cracks that will hopefully haunt them moving forward (though we've no track record to say they will), but this season was not bad for them in any way.

Interesting that for weeks and weeks a lot of her tweets were about Bucky basketball.  Since the "Diamond Stone did not get into UW and I know because I was there watching it all happen" tweets, she has said nothing about Bucky basketball, save a tweet last night congratulating the team for a fine season.

The re-education of Brenna Ryan is complete.

As long as we are talking advantages versus disadvantages, Duke, a small private school with a small alumni base and 1/6 the school's size of Wisconsin won.  Also, Wisconsin with a Top 7 overall athletic budget versus Duke, who is not even Top 20 in athletic budgets in the NCAA.

Did you see the recent nasty tweets being levied against this kid by these Badger fans?

Totally out of line. And embarassing to the university.

I'm starting to see a big inferiority complex here. Or maybe just a bunch of whiners.

Congrats to UW on a great, great season.

Next year starts a new adventure. Wojo will have a team consisting of a lot of his players rather than just those recruited by someone else. In two years, WE will be the better team.

A couple of bad things happened to Bucky, including its title-game loss.

Bad season? Please. 300+ schools would love to have it so bad.

Becky has had a great two year run, but then again so have plenty of other schools over the years. Being able to handle success and do it with class is what makes you great, and Becky has done that poorly at best.

This is what I mean. Wisconsin is seriously hurting itself and looking very bad.

OK, this is very misleading.  Overall athletic budgets, yes.  But Duke outspends everyone on basketball.

True.  But doesn't have to be that way.  Wisconsin is a way bigger school with way more in revenue than Duke overall in the athletic program.  That is the equivalent of saying "oh those poor Yankees they spend so much less than the Dodgers how can they have a chance?"

Zero sympathy.  Huge school with a huge budget.  They are not the little guy despite the narrative.

Especially as they throw insults at us for not having football and being able to pitch recruits on a full college sports experience.

Not to mention a seat at the table with the people shaking the football money tree.

Dumb thread.

Just because UW may have some issues doesn't mean it had a bad season in any way shape or form.

Nothing to show for it?  An outright Big Ten Conference Title, a Big Ten Tournament Title, a National Player of the Year, and an NCAA Runner-Up is "nothing to show for it"?

If that's the case, I suppose we've all been following a team that has been completely futile since 1977.  I'd like to think Marquette's couple conference titles, a Final Four, etc. are SOMETHING.  Sure, not the ultimate prize, but Wisconsin's season can hardly be categorized as a failure.
