We can still make fun of Bucky for their most recent championship being in 1941. ;D
Now let's run them out of their gym next season and make the world right again
I'll take it baby!!
Great season though Wisconsin. (I can be gracious if they lose ;D)

I hope you guys are happy that college basketball championships are only for the blue bloods anymore.

I don't know what this even means. Wisconsin was up 9'in the second half and two Blue Devils in serious foul trouble. What more do you want? They didn't capitalize.

I don't consider UConn a blue blood. And I didn't consider Louisville a blue blood until their most recent championship.
It's just really, really hard to win an NCAA tournament. Something we all need to remember.
Yeah, cause we never saw Final Four runs by Butler, George Mason, VCU, Wichita State, etc. over the past decade.
Congrats to UW. They'll go down in history like Utah. Great coach who's program declines shortly after the coach leaves. MU will quickly regain the title as Wisconsin/Midwest's best team.

I don't know if they decline a ton, next year could be tough if certain guys leave. UW had a great run and were a great team. Hats off to them.
Just a fart in the wind.
This was the best Badger team we'll ever see. Can they rebuild and come back? I highly doubt it. Kaminski had a once in a lifetime season, Dekker was awesome. This was as good as it gets.

Not sure I believe this at all. Despite what Wisconsinites like to think (like they are little david among goliaths), it is a top 5 athletic budget program that outspends 98% of the programs out there. And with its huge alumni support they will not fall too, too far.
Best post of the Wisconsin boards:

Could be, but as we all know, sometimes the not so greatest team is the one that goes farther. Was the '77 team Al's best? Yet that's the only one of his to win the title. You just never know.
Congrats to the badgers for a great season. Liked the players and couldn't help but root for them tonight. Now that it's over, Go Marquette!
And Bo blames the refs for not calling hand checks and body blows against his players...jeez, a whiner to the very end.

Great run. Thought they had Duke there late in the second half.
Kaminsky took Bucky to two straight Final 4s and was player of the year. He had an incredible college career.

Kaminsky is tough to not only replace in the short term, but in the history of a program.
Every year there's an Okafor, or Jabari, or Anthony Davis who is the highly touted big man who contributes right away. But to find an unheralded big man who develops in four years to become player of the year? That's really, really tough to find. Even harder than the elite big man.
On the play they reviewed to determine possession, they ignored the two whacks across the arms of the Duke player. Giving Wisky the ball there would have been a travesty.
UW will still be tough. He squeezes a lot out of guys like Koening, etc. But I am loving tonight. That was a damn good team Bo put together.

That's what I was telling my son. It took the 5th or 6th replay to make it look like Duke even touched it, but wow it was a fingernail....but that would have been a foul any other time during the game. He was clobbered by Koenig.

I agree with this in spirit, but the refs are supposed to follow the rules.
It was obvious that the ball went off of Winslow. Obvious to millions and millions of fans. They looked at the replay a gazillion times, and we all saw it, too.
I think Duke would have won anyway, but we'll never know. I know I'm sure glad Bucky didn't get the call or the game.

I can see MU regaining the "title" as Wisconsin's best team but the Midwest's best? The same midwest that includes Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, etc, etc? (not really sure if Kansas is considered midwest but my point stands)

It was obvious on my 60" HD television after seeing multiple angles and having them reverse slow mow it. Not sure the refs had that same look. For that matter, I don't even know what replays the refs had, but I do agree with you that if they had the same look, the same size TV, etc, then they should have called it.
Of course, plenty of bad calls on the other side as well. I think what they will be kicking themselves with is a 9 point lead and Duke in major foul trouble. I said yesterday foul trouble was a huge thing to look out for. UW-madison had a huge advantage there and couldn't take advantage of it.

You have to set your goals accordingly. MSU, OSU and Kansas should be considered peers of Marquette. Never accept being looked over and considered 2nd rate.

Excellent analysis on the overall game. Bucky had the Dookies right where they wanted them and shat the bed!
But as for the replay not being on big enough HD screens ... aren't the refs' monitors about the same size as the monitors the announcers have? The announcers clearly saw the same thing millions at home did, and said so about 20 times.
One thing's for sure: If replay can't reverse that call, they might as well not even have it as an option.

In the end, though, all the last 12 champions are top 20 historical programs, and most of them top 10. I love parity, but college basketball doesn't have it at the top.

Obvious? No video showed the hand actually touching the ball, although it's clearly right there. Some guy has a YouTube video where the picture is blown up until all that's left is the hand and the ball and in super slow motion, and he's like there, there for a micro second you can see a finger bend, so
it must have touched the ball.

I agree there is lack of parity and the fact that Wisconsin with its Top 10 (out of 350+ schools) athletic budget is proof if it.
It is very hard for the Davidson's of the world to have a chance. Oh, wait, you are saying IF WISCONSIN wins that is proof for the little guys? ::) Yeah, that is ONLY something someone living in Wisconsin could ever believe.

You're right because I forgot about that champion from the Power conference that is the American .... LAST YEAR.
If you consider Power Teams those that play in the big conferences (Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, SEC, ACC and the Big East-which may or may not keep that designation), only UConn last year (and they really shouldn't count as they recruited all their players as a Big East team), and UNLV in 1990 have won it since 1987. Before that Louisville in 1980 and 1986, and Marquette in 1977 are it since 1966.
I would submit that UConn, UNLV, Louisville and Marquette were all considered top flight or "power" programs and annual threats the years they won. You have to go back to Texas Western in 1966 to find a real "little guy" champion.
So I don't think things have changed that much. Right now there a few schools like Kentucky and Duke that enjoy a real competitive advantage because their coaches are so popular with the cream of the high school crop. That will change over time as the coaches change. All you can do is tip your hat to those guys and try to hire or develop one of those coaches for yourself.
Finally, Wisconsin will always be good as long as Bo Ryan is coaching them.
