Title: Camera Time
Post by: MU gimp ONE on March 19, 2015, 12:44:05 PM
Just saw buzz on CBS at the half.  How many other coaches that finished last in their conferences are getting invited to the show?  This guy's self PR routine is starting to annoy me more than the tanned one's.

couldn't hear what was being said, but just seeing his grinning face bothered me.

He's friends with Ernie and Charles, so that's why he gets on. Also, he's quirky, so it makes for good TV.

Granted, this is probably the most Virginia Tech will be on national TV all year.

I'd put $10 on Wojo showing up sometime in the next 3 weeks.

I think there's a fairly decent chance Buzz leaves Va Tech very soon...like after the tournament is over.

Wojo is a brand new head coach out of storied university, it's reasonable to get some air time.  Buzz missed the tourney last year and had an even worse season this year.  That is a different story.

Notre Dame just attempted the Davidson choke job at the end and damn near pulled it off.

Again, if being on pace to score over 200 points in the time frame that gave MU the comeback win is choking then sure, Davidson choked.

Highly doubt it. Far more interesting coaches out there and available. More every few hours.

Until (unless?) he does something very special at VT, no one is going to give him a contract remotely close to what he got from VT, and its not the money that I'm talking about.

80% free throw shooting team shoots 64% (great MU FT% defense I guess), misses key free throw in last minute, throws ball away when an easy completion is all that is needed, allows team that can only catch up by taking 3's to keep allowing team to take 3's, etc, etc.

There's a reason why most sports fans said choke.  If ND lost today, they would have said the same thing...that pass was eerily reminiscent.

If you can hold a team to 51 total points in the first 39 minutes, then allow a 320 point per game pace in the final minute, that's a choke--even if you're scoring at a 200 point pace yourself.

Which, by the way, Davidson wasn't.  They only scored at a 160 point per game rate in the final minute--not "over 200".

You have no idea what you're saying.  Or you're just trying to make Bert look bad.  Again, not many people like Bert.  You don't have to twist the truth to make him look bad here.

I'm assuming when you say "choke" you are referring to them giving up a 5 point lead in the last 1:20.  If we had won by 15 would they have choked because an 80% FT shooting team shot 64% from the line in the game?  Of course not.  So their FT% over the course of the game has nothing to do with their "choke."  Again, when they "choked" (AKA, when Marquette stepped up and took the game) they shot 75% from the line (a very good percentage) and scored 1.75 points per possession (a ridiculously high number).  They were on pace to score over 220 points if they kept that pace for 40 minutes.  To you that's a choke.  To me that's unheard of good.  To each their own I guess.

Did you watch the 3s that Marquette made?  Yes, they "let" Marquette take 3s.  Should they have fouled instead?  They could not have possibly done anything else to prevent Marquette from taking those shots besides foul.  You couldn't have defended those 3s any better.  So you must think they should've fouled.  1:20 left, 5 point lead, Chicos thinks it's a good idea to foul rather than allow a team to shoot incredibly well contested 3 point shots.  Again, to each their own I guess.

There was nothing "choke" about Davidson losing that game to Marquette.  There was Marquette stepping up and hitting some incredibly difficult and clutch shots.  I don't like Bert.  But I don't mind giving those kids credit for doing what they did, going out and making plays down the stretch.

Any coach in the world would take 7 points over the last 1:20 with a 5 point lead, 3-4 from the line in that time frame, and 1.75 points per possession in that time frame.  Incredibly efficient down the stretch.  The other team (Marquette) just happened to play even more incredibly down the stretch.  No choke.  Just got beat.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of your story Chicos.

Doubt if Chicos is trying to make Bert look bad. The Phony Cowboy does that all on his own.

Played like crap...until 1:20 were left.  And then we couldn't have played any better.

MU only hit 4 3's in 15 attempts (26.7%) vs. Davidson...

Davidson did blow that one at the end... but,

They also got beat in the game where they usually got beat all year: MU's OR% was 44% to Davidson's 23%.. 10 more OR's for MU vs. Davidson

37.9 efg x 58 attempts = 44 points
47.8 efg x 46 attempts = 44 points

Close game. MU needed to dominate the boards in order to pull that one out. They did. Not an amazing day for MU, but Davidson was poor on the offensive glass as they typically were that season.

Chicos seems to be a bit manic lately with the self-reassuring posts.  Must not be feeling all that confident these days.

I think its best just to ignore him until he feels better.

Any coach would be crazy to turn down the opportunity to appear in-studio.  Good pub for the school/program and even better pub for the individual.

Buzz is a great personality. I think whenever his coaching career ends he will be able to get into broadcasting for a long time. I'd guess within the next 10-15 years that will be his main job.

When did the dude's head get so big???? I mean head size literally - not as in ego.

When he lost weight, is that where it went? I mean we're talking Jim Leyritz / Mateen Cleaves head girth.
