Title: Who is everyone rooting for on Tuesday?
Post by: Mayor McCheese on November 26, 2007, 04:47:31 PM
We all hate the BADgers... we all hate Duke... so, who to root for?

My wisconsin blood in me says the Badgers, but I don't want to hear all year that they beat Duke and we didnt, so I guess I'll wear blue for the night.

I'm rooting for the roof to cave in on both of em.  Nobody to get hurt, just leave em trapped for a season or so ;)

While the question is sort of like "Which way do you want us to execute you, firing squad or guillotine"  I wil NEVER cheer for UW-Moscow under any circumstances.
When UW played Kentucky in Minneapolis I was one of the few MU fans cheering for Kentucky.

True.  My second favorite team is 'whomever is playing Madison'.

I was also one of those fans cheering for Kentucky.
My biggest fear would have been to lose to Madison to get to the final 4.  I dont think I could have gotten myself off the mat after that one!!

Duke is evil.

UW is the source of all evil.

Simplifies things for me, anyhow.

I used to be a so-so fan of the Rodents but now I detest them.  The only time I want to see them win is if it benefits MU.  I hope the Rodents lose by 50 tomorrow.

I'm slowly spreading that feeling through my immediate family.  With their terrible graduation rate, student athletes getting arrested and not kicked off the team, i honestly don't know how you can pull for a team like that.

Duke without question.  I hope they blow them out of the place.  There's no team I despise more than the ugly rodents.

I'll echo everyone else and say Duke.  And I hope it's a blowout.

The real question is will they actually play?  Between the refs stopping the game so Coach K and Bo Ryan can work them and the ensuing fouls that will be called the game might take four or five hours.

Badgers.

So when we beat the Rodents, we'll be better off!

Duke for two reasons:

1) I loathe everything that has to do with UW-Madison. Everything.
2) Unless they're playing MU, I always root for Duke. I've always respected their program a lot. One of my first non-MU basketball memories was Laettner's shot against UK. That being said, when they beat us in 1994 I hated them for two years.

UW-

1) so they can be undefeated when we beat them
2) I hate the way Duke wins (flops and coach K complaining to the refs despite getting every call anyway).  it is like cheating.

I know Bucky will get calls on their home court as well but I just can't stand Duke.

Yeah all this angst against MU really leads me away from pulling for UW.
Actually, I used to enjoy the Badgers both basketball and football (Since I am a Wisconsin native) but honestly, since I've ventured onto these forums and seen the hate many Badger fans have for us I just can't stand them.  I hope Duke wins and wins big and I hope we beat UW by an even larger margin...

To the few who have said they are cheering for the Badgers, you are NOT true MU fans.

If you are a true MU fan, you can NOT under any circumstances, ever root for the Badgers.

Last time a checked, #2 applies almost as well to UW as it does to Duke.

Have to go with Duke as Bucky would be insufferable were it to beat Duke at Cameron and, more so, for recruiting considerations.

I think Duke has taken flopping to a new art form.  But yes, Bo works the refs and there seems to be home cooking when we play in Madison.  I guess I don't hate UW because I haven't lived in Milwaukee since the early 80's and they weren't any good then.  Regarding recruiting, there is a point. Bo seems to have locked up the decent forwards and centers the last few years coming out of the state of Wisconsin and Crean seems to have a near monopoly on wing players.   However, I think a forward like Keaton Nankivil should now be reconsidering his choice given his utter lack of playing time.  I am not sure if UW beats Dook it will have much impact on someone like Johnny Lacy or Evan Anderson near term.  I think the coach, the style of play, the profile of the program, the ability to get players to the next level, and perhaps last but not least, the potential for early playing time has a lot to do with the recruits decision.  Given that MU is now in the BE, we probably have at least as high or a higher profile program than UW has. On other scores, MU offers a pretty good opportunity escpecially for kids who are serious about bball and academics.

5 years ago, I would have said Bucky.   Now, having perused various Buckyboards, I would not root for them against North Korea.   So, go Duke.

I think if duke beats UW then it would be harder for us to go into madison and beat the badgers, they will not want to lose 2 non conference games in 2 weeks, and if UW beats duke i could see UW getting big heads and i think it would be easier to go into madison and pull out a win this way.  Either way it will be a tough game against the badgers.

I'm rooting for the Refs  ;D

And I want Duke to win.  Convincingly.  Like. By 60 points.

Well, with it 48-25 Duke at half, it's a potential 46 point win.  I'd take that too.  I do find it hard to believe Wiscy can shoot this poorly for the rest of the game - but there's always hope  ;D

I watched zero minutes of the game, but did enjoy a high school coach telling me tonight than Duke had won by 30

Oh believe me, I bleed Blue and Gold.

I just wanted the win to be sweeter when we beat them while undefeated.

Any victory over the Raccoon brethren is sweet, but to beat them while undefeated in their house would have been sweeter to me.

Unfortunately, getting blown out by Duke only makes them madder...And I fear their post players will eat ours up like Tastykakes.

I know for the last 10-15 years there has been a budding rivalry between MU and UW.  However, I just don't feel a part of it.  I lived in the state for 4 years, while going to MU in the early 80s.  During that time, the UW game was just another game.  At the time, I felt rivarly with ND, Louisville, and DePaul.  Today, we have plenty of rivals in the Big East.  I just can't get worked up about Wisconsin like some others do.

I am a HUGE, HUGE, MU fan.  What I feel for the Badgers is indifference more than hate.  I think your statement implying that anyone else who wanted the Badgers undefeated going into our game with them is less of an Marquette fan is simpy misguided.  I think rivalry is in the mind of the fan and is hard to objectively define.  Likewise, I suppose some fans, perhaps you, are happy with the Golden Eagles moniker and don't like the nickname Warriors.  To each his own.
