Some people laughed at me and said I was crazy when I wanted him to be the next coach at MU.He is going to the next star in the coaching ranks.Hopefully he doesn't go to DePaul.
If he goes to DePaul, I don't think he'll be there long. They don't have a strong enough commitment to the program. He'd likely get a very good recruiting class or two (I expect we'd see Maurice O'Field there) and get them back to just enough relevance to parlay it into a bigger job. That they tolerated both Wainright and Purnell as long as they did shows just how willing they are to accept ineptitude.

Do you think Hurley would have the recruiting class coming in that Wojo has? We made the right choice.
If he is as good as you believe he is, I hope he does go to DePaul. I want every team in the Big East to be great, with ours being just a little better than all the rest.
Wojo was a no brainier. Hurley would've been a roll of the dice.
I am not saying MU made a bad choice.I am saying people ridiculed me when I mentioned Booby Hurley as someone I wanted to coach at MU.
So just an "I told you so" thread then?

Hurley is doing a fine job at Buffalo and all, but ...
If MU had hired Hurley, they would have been bringing in a guy with a total of four years coaching experience at powerhouse programs such as Wagner, Rhode Island and Buffalo. No experience in a major program. No experience in a major conference. No experience recruiting high level players. No experience coaching in an NCAA tournament.
That is indeed laughable. People would have been marching on the Al with torches and pitchforks (only a slight exaggeration).
Hurley may indeed become "the next coaching star," but there was no way in hell he would have or should have been deemed ready for the MU job last year.
Have to say, I do not understand what all the fuss is about. They won the tournament in a crap league. Ok...? Why are the natonal media types carrying on like they just went to the Final Four? If some other coach had done the same, would we hear anything about it? The answer is, no...
Why are we not seeing the same mentions and Twitter flury about UC Irvine or North Florida, also making their first tournament appearances? Should MU have hired those guys? They seem to have accomplished the exact same thing as Hurley. I just think it's sort of weird.
I do think Hurley will be a good coach. He's a smart guy, good recruiter, and learned from some great coaches in his father and K. But every year at this time guys get overhyped. Look at Andy Enfield a couple years ago. He was the toast of college basketball and since has been a non factor at USC. Maybe he will turn it around but one NCAA appearance, even one NCAA run, does not a future star make.
His brother Danny would have been a much better hire.
Bobby most likely exiting. Seems like a good coach with the pedigree obviously. His career will be interesting to watch. He seems more like an outsider to the Duke position, weird considering how beloved he was.
It'll be interesting to see if DePaul gets involved. Would be a much better choice than Howland, IMO.
Clappy only had 1 tournament run and IU hired him.

Does Hurley want to get involved with DePaul?
I can see Hurley ending up at Seton Hall.

How about Bobby at Seton Hall and Danny at Depaul.
I think if Kevin Willard was going to be fired it would have happened by now.
I do think Bobby Hurley would be interested, even if as a stepping stone to something bigger.
Would Hurley even consider SHU or DePaul? He would have to play Wojo twice per year, breaking the unstated Duke pact.
I'm only half-joking here.

Hurley isn't really from the Coach K tree. Guys like Capel, Wojo, Collins, and Dawkins were all assistants working together. Hurley played for K, but all his coaching experience came as an assistant on his brother's staff.

More likely Danny at Seton Hall considering he went there.

If you wanted him to be MU's coach last year you were wrong. If you think that this year has vindicated your position now, you must have totally missed Wojo's first year. Just how big a drop from Wojo's performance this year would you be willing to accept and still call Hurley a good choice?
One of the Hurley's will probably be the next HC at SJU when Lavin is likely shown the door this week. Virtually nothing coming back other than Rysheed Jordan (Lavin acknowledges that Obekpa probably will not be returning). If Jordan enters the NBA draft, SJU is in deep doo-doo as the incoming recruiting class is rather sparse.
Lavin just had his best season since his what, first or second year? I think he sucks and underachieved, but I'm not sure they'll fire him yet.
I'm not sure he sucks. I just never got the impression he wants to put his heart and soul into the practice time. He seems a little Hollywood.

Just what I was thinking - just ain't sure which Hurley.
