I put it as a tie between Tower912 and MJS beat writer Matt Velazquez.
Tower's "______" Thoughts after each game became a must read for me and always a great way to start the post-game discussion. Thanks for always doing those, very much appreciated.
Matt Velazquez may be the best beat writer MU has ever had. He's Rosiak on steroids. Being a beat writer nowadays isn't what it was 5, 10, 20 years ago. You need to tweet hourly, blog daily and you're lucky if you get print inches weekly. Matt V is up to the job. Expect him to either end up covering the Brewers or Packers very soon (unless they make the new-look Bucks a bigger priority). Or expect him to get bigger gig at a better outlet. He's got the hustle.
Toss up between those two and whoever pulled the plug on Ners
I have to go with Matt. Tower has been bringing it for some time, but Matt really, really stepped up the JS's game this year.

The Ners echo: what greater measure is there of his negative impact than length of time after his banning that comments about his path of destruction are still heard.
Matt. Tower is an a-hole.
Let's pull a Big East and name co-MVPs. Great job, Tower and Matt!

In other words, Velazquez did his job. Yipee. Don't act like he found a cure for cancer for crying out loud. He is a sportswriter.
I actually vote for co-MVP.. Both deserve it!

Chicos was a punchline while he was banned, too.

Whoever pulled the plug on Ners gets my vote and it's not even close.

At least she's got both hands on the wheel. Just like they teach in driver's ed.
I changed my vote. The mods with the ban hammer are the MVPs.
The dude who sounded the final horn at MSG yesterday vs Villanova, hey?
MVP of a message board?

Hutch, I understand that. But sportswriting today isn't what it used to be. Velasquez is doing his job, but his job is likely spread over so many different things that doing his job may not mean what we want it to mean. I give him credit because he's making the effort.
If you want to see how bad things can get, look at DePaul. About the only way they get any coverage is to fire their head coach. Even that story was buried four pages into the Tribune sports section. If Marquette fired a coach, it would be Page 1 on the Urinal-Sentinel and with Mr. Velasquez on the job, I know the search would be covered thoroughly.
I think he is making an effort to cover Marquette fairly and reasonably. We'll see how long this last in the penny pinching world of U-S sports coverage.
