Eagles make an MU fan out of Bilas
ESPN analyst Jay Bilas continues to give Marquette high marks in November. While calling three MU games in Maui, Bilas, (a Duke graduate) was impressed with the way the Golden Eagles defended opponents.
"The Golden Eagles have a legit chance to win the Big East," said Bilas. "They are not big, but they are athletic, they guard the dickens out of you, and they are a close team that understands what it takes to win."
Sophomore guard David Cubillan must have made quite an impression on him. Cubillan made Bilas' all-tournament team and all-defensive squad in Maui.
Cubillan was probably Marquette's most consistent perimeter threat during the tournament.

Jay Bilas is becoming for Tom Crean, what Madden is for Brett Favre.
Bilas always has seemed pretty favorable of Marquette.
Bilas and Seth Davis both seem to be huge Crean backers.
By the way, for all the Duke-gets-all-the-calls people, I looked up last year's box score and they had more fouls that we did. I admit that was a poorly officiated game, but to claim actual bias is too much.

They had one more foul than us. Not exactly an overwhelming difference. I believe they fouled a few times at the end of the game too.

The fouls called in the last 1:34 of the game were Duke - 5; MU - 1.

The entire ACC, drawing on a bit more that one game (!) thought otherwise when they pressed for a study a few years back. Claiming "bias" might be too vague; the argument was that the refs were afraid of Coach K.
Bias is ideological, such as when Wolf Blitzer (a former AIPAC exec) covers Annapolis for CNN.
