BE tourney record??? Unbelievable!
Yup. He would say they were easy assists, that the scorer was being overly generous, that it was unconscious shooting by others and nothing Derrick did. We all know the song.
Ehh. A lot of them were "basic assists."
Great game from the senior....

I'm sure they were all "basic" assists.
Please he made all those assists in high school
So, is he banned completely from logging in, or only from posting?

Ally-oops off the backboard to himself for the dunk?
As someone who cursed loudly whenever Derrick took any kind of shot much of the past three seasons, I am very happy he is finishing his career on a good note. He has brought nothing but class to the program.
Nope. He's already dead. It happened right here... http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=46210.msg690529#msg690529

Does that mean it should not me the Record Holder or maybe add an asterisk next to his name. Is it because the Former Recorder holder had no "basic assists" ?

John Stockton had thousands of "basic assists" to Karl Malone (who did the heavy lifting) and they still counted.

I got the joke...teal not needed (for some)
Who cares? He gowne, and we're all better for it. Move on and be happy. I know I am. This place is enjoyable again.
Musta missed it when I was taking a mini hiatus. Was it a permaban?
Why do we allow the banned to be taunted?
One of Derrick's TOs was the touch pass to Luke late in the game that was so unexpected, that Luke wasn't even looking for it.
Really the whole "easy assist" argument is bogus. Hitting a guy coming off a curl in the perfect place for him to get off a shot isn't the most difficult thing in the world - but let's not act like its just a ho-hum thing either.

I don't want to taunt, and I won't. But this seems like a decent place to put this comment. If Carter can't stay in front of his man and slow the initial attack, we will be wishing that DWilson was back on the team. Yes, he is also steady, but I think we can replace that... but the key for Carter will be his on the ball defense against the opposing point and keeping him out of the lane.

I think this is a big part of Wojo's recruiting targets. Cheatham, Anim, and Carter are all praised for their man-to-man defense. It seems to be a really big focus for this staff to find guys that will come in and adjust quickly to playing the defense Wojo wants.
I still think he's a bit bitter that they had to switch to zone early in the season. It was the right coaching move, and I think it will ultimately make Wojo a better coach because now he will have zone in his back pocket, but he definitely wants to play man. The new recruits all mirror that desire.
Obviously Derrick played better than normal. Carlino helped a ton (were 8 of those assists to Carlino?)
However, I think it also illustrates that Derrick himself isn't really the huge problem that some people believe.
When Derrick is your 4th or 5th best player, he fills the role beautifully.
Put Derrick on a good team, and he's a pretty good role player. But, unfortunately Derrick's skill set does not allow him to help carry a bad team. Not the first or last player that can be described like that.
I don't say all of this to start a whole "derrick thing", I just say it to add some perspective to what we have been arguing about for 2 years.

You're right. I think most rational fans know that. It's not like we've had great PG play of late. The only good point guards we had of the Buzz era were recruited by Tom Crean. But the Derrick bashers will always bash Derrick. At least until we pick a new whipping boy come November.
I'm guessing that ners head is exploding right now because can't say 'told ya so.'

Please quantify, or at least explain how this program lacked class until he arrived.

Don't be a knob. He was saying Derrick brought HIS class to the program, which he did.

He never claimed that the program "lacked class until he arrived." He didn't even claim that he left the program with more class than when he arrived.
He simply claimed that he "brought nothing but class" to the program.
Today's rough performance may be called Revenge of the Ners.
Actually, considering Ners gave Derrick credit for good games, I think he'd say that Derrick had a good game. I agree and also think that it was nice to see him be aggressive rather than trying to pound the ball through the floor for 20 seconds.

I'm sure it would be a backhanded compliment. Derrick had a good game, thankfully he didn't do X, Y, and Z, though I didn't like it when he did this or that, and he still bogs down the offense, and his assists were basic assists, so only 3 of them should have actually counted, but other than that, he really played well. If he could play like that all the time, he could develop into a really good backup to John Dawson.
