Title: Pirates thoughts
Post by: tower912 on March 11, 2015, 08:01:16 PM
1.   Amazing.   Like playing a cupcake.
2.  Contributions from the 6 who played big minutes.   Across the board.  Wonderful.
3.  Still need to make free throws.
4.   Should have put Sandy, the twins, and JJJ in for the last 4 minutes.
5.  Probably wasted some of the 3's tonight.    Probably going to hit 2 for 20 tomorrow.
6.  Seton Hall is a porta-john now.   Never seemed to have a plan tonight.   It isn't like MU did anything different.
7.  One last glorious game for the seniors in MSG.   A gift to them for all of their hard work and perseverance.   Well done, gentlemen.   You deserved it.    And thank you for the gift you gave MU nation tonight.   A warm day in a long winter.

Bring on Nova. Here's to hoping for more magic in MSG.

Nice that ALL of them got a BE tournament win in their careers.  And that the twins got on the floor in a big world.

Tower- I was looking for this wrap up post with 6 minutes left. Spot on, as usual! Best game we have played in 2 years.

If we could somehow knock off Villanova, look out.

Nova win is not impossible. We played them pretty well a couple of weeks ago without Carlino and Anderson. We will have to play our "A" game, but I think we have a chance.

Matt Carlino = Kemba Walker
SH had no answer for Luke
Seniors played their best game together
Really great defensive effort
Officially better than the Dukiet team with two in a row.

No.

Now, if you said he was Jerry McNamara...the I could go along with.

Thanks for the kind words.   I briefly thought about it with 6 minutes to go, but I was too caught up in the moment and still afraid of jinxing it.

You know, I've heard somewhere that's it's hard to beat a team 3 times in one season...

I'm so happy for our Seniors.  They are great young men and have earned it.

Season of no expectations, this was the best example of exceeding them. Not that Seton Hall is all that, but we beat them down like a SWAC team.

Great game as SH defense didn't show up and we took advantage of it. Full team effort.

To have a shot tomorrow we need to match 'Nova's phisicality and shoot lights out. It will be very tough but we will be rooting for the Warriors.

Great crowd in MSG for day 1. Great to see Juan more healthy. Derrick dropping the dimes and Matt cashing in!

Two big east tourney records- carlino on made threes and Derek with assists!!!!

Interesting note- commentators made a point to say dienes wants to coach one day- love that he's back in the program!!!!!

Our zone defense gives us a shot to win against most teams.

The fellas looked real good tonight!

First Big East Tournament win since March 9, 2011 vs. West Virginia.  If anything, that monkey is off the back.

First winning streak since December.  First Big East winning streak since last February.  Yeah, it's DePaul and Seton Hall, but it's something.

Raff, Donny Marshall, Gus and KO all in one place.  We need to get back to winning to avoid drawing the D-team announcers during the season.

Quite the atmosphere on a Wednesday night to see the conference boobs duke it out.  Nice job Val, MSG, and Fox.

Hard to tell if Marquette played well of if Seton Hall mailed it in.

Both.  We're not good enough to beat any halfway decent team by 22 points if they come to play.  Seton Hall can't half-ass themselves into a 22 point loss against a 12-18 team unless they're playing close to their best game.

Well said, but the D announcers which are really not teams can still be strong on FS1, with guys like Eric Collins and Steven Bardo or Dick Stockton, Brian Anderson,  Bob Wenzel etc.

Maybe it's the E team then.  Whichever one Dickey Simpkins is on  ;)

Your correct on him. I was surprised FS2 matched him with a game with Tim Brando.

I watched the game off the DVR (had to work late  >:(    ), and I don't feel like scanning the game thread to see if someone else made this comment:

My guess is that Ners had to watch the game with the sound off, given the continuous love Raftery was giving Derrick.

I only wish DeWil had scored a few more points so he could have gotten the double-double.

Great game today.  Nice way to end the season.
Buckley's chance tomorrow.

Look it up.

My biggest wish for next year is for Luke to get better at corralling passes into the post.

Luke has good hands for a big man, yet seems to take an extra second to gather the pass and go up with it strong.  With an influx of guards (and Henry's foreseen ability to draw double teams), if Luke can shave a tenth of a second off collecting that pass and go up strong with it, will make a huge difference IMO.

Steve struggles in a similar approach, in the sense that his ball fakes actually buys time for his defenders to close the gap and challenge shots.

One thing I saw today is that the refs didnt call the tick-tack fouls they usually called on Fischer. Not only was he getting beat up in the post, but they let him play more than they usually do.

All five of our starters played extremely well and SHU was awful.  But SHU was just as bad the last time we played them and we only won by 3.  It's been a long while since we played a solid 40 minutes.  Probably the only bad stretch was the 2 minutes before then end of the first half, and even that was tempered by the lucky 3 from Taylor at the buzzer.

I would have spread the minutes out a little more in a game we controlled from the start when we have another game (and hopefully more to follow) at noon today.  Only 1 minute for Cohen and only 6 for Johnson (and probably 2-3 of those minutes were by necessity after Duane ran into the scorers table).  Very minor quibble, though, in a great performance.

Two teams with a large uphill task in front of them.  One found it too hard and decided to go on vacation.  One decided to go for it and took that first step.

And I don't want to hear any more of the "Wojo lost the team" bullsh*t.  They played hard.  They played together.

I can't watch today's game, and that's probably OK because I would love to have that be my last memory of this season.
