Title: Wisconsin relying too heavily on Tucker
Post by: Mayor McCheese on November 26, 2006, 05:03:05 PM
I know this is a Marquette board, and me being a MU fan (and not Badger), I get the harassment from Badger fans asking who will stop Tucker in the game, and I tell them that it doesn't matter, and the game between Missouri St and Wisconsin showed that.... Tucker scored 26, shot 10-19 and had 6 boards, not to mention 50% from the 3-pt line, and Wisconsin still lost, and not in a shootout (Tucker had close to 50% of their points).  I said it about McRoberts and I will say it about Tucker, let him get his average and Marquette will win, the Badgers rely too heavily on Alando Tucker and unless this changes, I see no reason why Marquette will lose.  Butch has been over rated his whole career, and Ooze will control him.  Taylor has no shot with our guards, and with it not being in the Kohl Center, I think Marquette will come out as the better of the state teams.

You're correct on Tucker----UW is at its best when the scoring is spread around. When the others stand around and have to watch Tucker do his thing (monoplize the game) they lose spirit and reflects negatively on their efforts in other aspects of the game!

Like Duke, UW won't have a chance against the tempo of our game. They'll be tired, Butch especially, and will give up too many points off turnovers. If we execute our gameplan like we have in the past few games, I would find it very difficult for UW or any team for that matter, to beat us.

Hopefully the poor shooting in our first three games were the exception and not the rule.  Still, shooting teams are liable to go cold every once in awhile.  And when you're ranked as high as Marquette is now and will be on Monday, you're going to get every opponent's best effort.  Personally, I think we're a better team than Wisconsin.  But to say we're going to overwhelm them is probably a stretch.  Given the history, the Badgers are going to give us a run for our money regardless of match-ups and style of play.

I tend to agree.  You may be overstating things just a bit.  I do however think the assumed edge on the inside for UW has been overblown.  I can see it in rebounding.  But as far as inside scoring other than Tucker they dont have much.  I believe our Bigs are good enough on D to pull out a draw on the inside and MU can win the battle on the outside.  But they actually play the game for a reason.
