Which one of you ponied up the $330K to get this completely unnecessary renovation done in good ol' Heartland?

The district funded over $300K for it. The other ~$350K came from a private donor.

Tom and Joanie Crean?

Heard they pledged that but then the money never came.  The district had to foot the bill for the other half of the $660K.

Who cares about cutting a couple of teachers when you can have a really nice locker room?

about 50% donor funded, but even it were 100% donor funded, there is no way a HS needs a $660,000 locker room.  By the way, this is basketball and soccer only.  Football already got their palace.

There are REAL needs out.  This is the continuation of a new facilities arms war out here in Western Waukesha county (led by Arrowhead).  Ridiculous.

PS.  I would be really pissed if Oconomowoc did this.  $660,000.

i guess the peoples are getting a little fundraiser fatigued?  come on school district-where's the love??  maybe if they tried to disguise the lacrosse program as a distant cousin of football, they could have rung a little more juice out of the wallets

This is nothing compared to what they do in Texas.  There a single high school has a $60M dollar football stadium.

Yeah, but it's all worth it in the long run, ain't it?

That the one that had to shut the stadium down for a year because it was falling apart already?

when arrowhead"s football team would take the field, you'd swear it was the wisco badgers team.  their field has 6 luxary boxes that sell for $75k over 4 years :o

I'm a Warhawk. This stuff has been going on since Frank Marek bought the school a football scoreboard during our first title runs in the early 1990s. The district has a lot of money and a ton of wealthy donors. No one would say a word if it was a private school, and the simple reality is a lot of parents out there have the means to donate like it is.

Oh...and definitely not me making that donation on my lowly public servant salary. ;)

It's not as though Arrowhead is building these grand sports palaces while the rest of the school falls apart and the kids are failing academically.  People complain about this kind of stuff at Marquette...or UW...or wherever.  But really until the IRS stops giving tax breaks for donations for athletic purposes, this stuff is going to continue.
