More holiday hoops please
Marquette's eary season perfection in November ended on Wednesday night on ESPN in a 77-73 loss to Duke. It was Marquette's first defeat in an early-season exempt tournament in six years. Prior to Wednesday's setback, MU was 17-0 in the many holiday college basketball feasts dreamed up by ESPN since 2001.
The beaches of Maui don't seem to distract Duke either.
The Blue Devils now have four EA Sports Maui Invitational titles and and a 12-0 record in the event.

Duke will make it 15-0 next time they are in it if they get officiating like that.
1:21 A.M. - Marquette has just picked up another foul.
I hope this means we will win one in the NCAAs in March. To be honest, I would rather go to the second round of the NCAAs than win another early season tournament at this point.
Agreed downtown.
I actually think this loss might work out better for us. While a W against the Dukies is always nice, I feel like we still walk away from this game with a lot. A few calls fall the other way, or a few of those shots drop that should've, and that's our game. We showed the country that we can play at the top level and I think gained a lot of respect for that game (just look at Coach K's comments).
And, I think the loss could be some good motivation for the team--I wonder if winning all this early season tournaments in the past actually set us up for some failure--makes the team a little cocky, think that they don't have to do anything more, etc. A game like this will stick in the team's mind, and hopefully motivate them going forward.
Now, let's sweep the UWs, and get ready for conference play.
