Fire up Marquette!
Might be a wrap if we lose today.
Butler favored by 2.5 and the over/under is 128.
With so many people saying Wojo has lost this team, I'd be wary.
Better win this one. Go Marquette go!!

He got a coach slap of five - what do you want here!?! I mean, 40 minutes? So Ners how many minutes SHOULD JJJ play this game to satisfy you?
That's three lay ups missed. Luke has also missed two short ones, Taylor missed one and two stupid turnovers.

Great move by Duane; no finish. Too bad. Keep doing that.

Marquette would be much better if they could trade Derrick for Barlow. Barlow's bball iq is much better. At least he can read a transition break.

No reason to take him out at that point. Was going good things. Gets back in game now for a bit, missed one shot going to basket and back to bench. Meanwhile Duane Wilson can attack run and miss frequently and keep playing. Players notice this disparity in a coach's leash. But go ahead. Make another lame joke.

I've been thinking the same thing. He is playing within himself and the offense. Maybe he is starting to buy into the process. Would be great, because the base athleticism and potential is there, just needs to round out the game and he could be a good one.
Well lost some momentum. That big guy barrels into JJJ and somehow ball lands in his lap.
Then derrick drives diagonally to the corner for a fade away worse than Derrick(Rose) two nights ago.
Too many air balls and on our home court

I recall little of the first half but then realize....I've seen this before and I know how it's going to end.
Butler's best player Jones is scoreless, but their center is having career game.
Luke has taken seven shots in first half, more than previous whole games, bad news is he has missed three shots within two feet. The Butler center does not miss those.
Four other MU layups missed and Taylor missed from three feet. The good teams make them or at least half of them.
JJJ got some good minutes, must have practiced harder this week.
Carlino is not a shy guy, believe he is 1 for 6, some have not been close.
Keeping it close, but must continue to contain Jones.

Duane, JJJ, and Fischer with consecutive misses from 4 feet -- ouch. Pretty good defense again today. Dorky white dude somehow beating us.
Like to see Luke and Steve get out there together. Chrabascz is having his way down low, could use some more size to deal with him. Of course, when that ball pips of Jajuan and into his hands, well it feels like everything's coming up Andy.

Tough miss by Sandy. Great pass by Matt though..
Derrick really needs to be quicker with the ball in transition. Really hurts the team when he holds it there. It was 4 on 1.

This years version of Derrick is easily 2 or 3 times better than last. I wish he was this confident on offense since he first got to MU.
Wish Sandy had shot the midrange instead of kicking to Derrick in the corner with the clock running down.

He's definitely better than last years offensive version. Then again he has yet to make a midrange jumper this year. All layups and 3 pointers. At least he's shot 25 3 point shots to at least make defenses consider guarding him on the perimeter this season as opposed to last.

I'm liking that it is a balanced attack. When just one or two guys are on, it seems that the offense gets bogged down, just waiting for them (typically Carlino, sometimes Du. Wilson) to 'do their thing.' Much better overall movement when there are more weapons.
JJJ has to call out those screens. We'll be lucky if Juan isn't out with a concussion.

Luke sets up too far outside. When in closer they doubled him
Missed layups, missed FTs, lost the rebounding battle.
The team is growing. Great defensive squad, just not enough to close out games. Defense is exhausting.
When it comes down to it the season at this point is about two things. Growing as players.
Duane is still growing. Cohen is looking solid, today JJJ looked like he was finally starting to get team ball..
And, showing the growth in the BE tournament. I assure you no-one will want to play us on day 1.
Live by the Carlino and die by the Carlino. He is a ball hog.
And Fischer was schooled by Chrabacz. Finally, Wojo put Juan on him and he was schooled also.

Duane needs to quit pointing at his wrist, last two times he has done it we have gone on to crap the bed.

Live by the Carlino and die by the Carlino. He is a ball hog.
Duane and he are both ball hogs. Given our roster they kind of have to be. How did Duane miss that breakaway lay up?

And Fischer was schooled by Chrabacz. Finally, Wojo put Juan on him and he was schooled also.
Wojo has no clue at end of games. His strategy: Let Carlino throw up an egg with 3 guys on him.
On to next year.
Pretty much agree on all points but sadly MU needs Carlino to be competitive. They would probably have 4 wins without. Although, the more you think about it would it really even matter?

So he makes that foul shot, we're down 1, we foul and now we have 2-3 seconds to go length of court and make a 3 to force another OT. Going for the miss there is a defensible alternative.
I agree. Certainly no reason to call someone a "bozo," any way.

That's why our wait until the end of the shot clock offense at the end of games is a bad idea. Tough to run an offense like that with only two scoring options. One big guy can handle Luke, and Derrick and Juan are not threats. Near impossible to get a good late look for Carlino or Duane when the defense knows that's what you have to do.

Too easy to defend when there are just two go to scorers
Pretty much it. I hope Duane, Sandy, Luke and Jajuannaman can put on some weight this off season, I hope Jajuan can start to fix his jumper, and I hope we can get solid contributions from Cheatham and Noskowiak right away. Gotta be ready to take full advantage of Henry from day 1. All I really care about at this point until the Big East tournament.

Yeah--it was that and him that lost the game.

Wojo the phony lonesome Dukie just daid on the post game that Derrick played unbelievable defense against Jones.

That was beyond stupid. Would Carlino just audible to that or do we think it came from sideline. Hopefully question gets asked in post game press conference.
What was beyond stupid? The execution was terrible, but the approach was the only call to make at that time.
Carlino absolutely must hit the rim in that situation to give us a chance. If he doesn't hit the rum or if Carlino makes his second FT we lose......and we did.

Man they're hard to watch this year. I know he doesn't have much to work with but I'm definitely not sold on Wojo.
You be right, guy. It's basketball for pity's sake. What was Wojo doing during his tenure on the Duke bench during games - sleeping? I believe the guy he sat next to for at least a decade probably shared a bit of in-game coaching during that time. I will say this, however, as I listen to his post-game coach speak. He sure has all the loser coach-speak cliches at the ready.
We could use a big who can shoot this year. Two man game with Carlino would be deadly... Too bad he leaves.

Lol. Good question. But of it was Derick bringing the ball up in that situation he would have eased up the court instead of challenging the D and we'd safely get in our offense of watching Derrick look to pass to Matt and Duane to go create offense.

Of course he did. Just like Buzz did all of last year. Have to somehow try to justify why you are playing the guy 35 minutes when it is clear he essentially adds no value at offensive end.

You could say it's debate able I guess. But my preference - make it a 1 point game, force them to inbound with no timeouts. Maybe get turnover off of that or foul immediately. 4 seconds is plenty of time to rebound and get a decent look.
Without checking the stats, I don't think Butler missed a FT. The choice between a controlled miss by us and potential for a Off rebound vs. counting on them to miss and chuck up a half court shot? Neither is a great option--but I'll take the former.....and certainly isn't beyond stupid.

Derrick has played pretty well this year. His D is generally good and I wouldn't go as far to say he adds no value. He does what he can with his skill set. Hard to knock a kid that plays as hard as does. Doesn't really make any dumb mistakes either. I do however hope Marquette recruits people with much higher basketball ability to play that position going forward. Can't really rag on the only true one on this team.

Carlino makes the FT it is a one point game. You can foul and Butler still has to make two and it's a 3 point game. Missing it leaves us down 2 and as you saw..of you don't get the rebound you have to foul immediately and now they make 2 FTs and you are down 4..impossible to tie game then. And as you saw Butler trap is and force a turnover at end of regulation - it is very possible in that situation to create a turnover. Bottom line..never should have gotten to that point anyway. But. Trust the process.
Butler was 17 for 18 for free throws.
Roosevelt Jones, their best player shot 1 or 2 for 12, but #45 went for 30 points and 8 rebounds. Who'd think.......
17 of 18.
So, maybe not plan on them missing FTs with 2 sec left and chuck one up from 3/4 to 1/2 court? Maybe you execute the play and try to get a 50/50 ball. Better odds than them missing FTs and a desperation hurl.
I love Carlino and what he has done for us. That said, I'll be glad when Duane, Sandy, and the others next year have to make plays at the end. We are way too one dimensional at the end and everyone knows it.
