Title: JJJ 3pt %
Post by: Bo Ryan's Massage Therapist on January 28, 2015, 08:51:06 PM
JJJ is 7-42 from three point land according to espn stats.  I tried searching the wiki to see the last time a player had over 40 three point field-goal attempts and was shooting under 20%.  I went back all the way to 1994 and there has been no such player... Granted the wiki is missing season stats for the early and mid 90s.  Bottom line... Might be time to stop shooting them since you can't make them!

Maybe he just isn't taking enough of them to hit consistently.

That's because he's being robbed of minutes he so richly deserves.

Derrick and Juan have both taken fewer 3s than JJJ, and have been able to hit a higher percentage.

He's 0 for his last 12. Take a look at his conference shooting added to the power 6 opponents in the non conference, he's 1-25! 4% ain't bad.

Worst part, he's a chucker. He takes 26% of the shots while on the floor, highest on the team.

He is not a shooter (that's being kind), and other than a quick first step has not much going for him. I cannot see him getting much if any time next year unless he improves dramatically.

He won't get any time at all. Per NCAA rules, you have to sit out a year when transferring.

Sounds like a guy who deserves a longer leash and more extended runs.

Would not be surprised at all if that happens, but I didn't want to start the speculation.

He's 7/44 after tonight. That's 15.9%.

This century there have been ~60 players who have had at least 40 3FGA, but shot less than 16%. Talented Georgia Tech freshman Tadric Jackson is the second-worst on the list at 9.8% (before tonight - GT is slamming the skitzo Miami squad, but don't think he's played). He was 5/51 this season heading into tonight's game. 60% of his made 3-pointers came against Marquette in Orlando.

Pretty sure he's still never hit a Big East three.  Wow.  And to think I've had to  argue with many on this board going back to this past summer that he's no good. Everyone still insisted on giving him a chance, it's way too early to judge him, etc... this was the b.s. people were holding on to despite what has been obvious since his MU career began.

You enjoy one of our guys missing darn near everything they take outside of a lay-up?  Maybe you were being sarcastic?

People ask me what I have against the kid.  I have nothing against the kid personally.  In fact, I admire him for sticking with Wojo and the program this year when he could have easily bailed months ago.   I've beat the drum so much on what a lousy player he is because of so many idiot remarks like this have been par for the course on this board about him.  Most have treated him like some sacred cow we can't criticize.  Like he can't really be this bad because he was rated as a top 30-40 kid coming in.  As though there's no way the rankings on him could have been that wrong.  Well folks, they were.

He hit two last season. But yeah, he's been brutal in conference play both seasons.

Oh, hi TAMU- remember me?  The one that had the "dumb hyperbolic" comment about JJJ a few days ago?  Am I still as "dumb" and "hyperbolic" as just a few days ago?  Or am i getting better?

Would be tough to give him the red light if he's open, since I think he needs to be able to hit the shot to be a successful player.  Just makes it all the more frustrating.

Nope, it was still a dumb and hyperbolic comment.

When you are fully leashed its a head game, and a guy who doesn't compete with him for minutes gets too many, and clearly Wojo is trying to stick it to the administration.

How does a kid have that horrible form, and his youth coaches don't do something about it.  There are shooting clinics in every major metro area.

I know, coaches can only do so much and it appears he may not be very coachable.

Something has gone wrong with JJJ's shot while at MU. Watch his HS highlight video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alVtQ1xQj9U (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alVtQ1xQj9U)

Pull-up at 0:22 and 1:06
Off a screen at 0:25 and 0:29 (possibly the best angle of his form)
Catch and shoot at 0:43, 0:55 and 1:00
Off the dribble at 0:51

His shot looks so much smoother and less twisted and herky-jerky. He pushed the ball a bit too much and needed to get that elbow in, but that form is not the same one that he's using today.

Look at this pic from the first game of the season.

He looks like he's trying so hard to get that elbow in that he's overcompensating and shooting across his body. A right-handed shooter shouldn't have the ball on the left side of his head when going up for a shot.

Overhauling your shooting form is not easy and takes a lot of time and effort, but his main issues appear to be fixable.

And what's even funnier is people on here who said his hitch was gone and his shot was fixed. Not sure who they were watching, but that is the same ugly form.

For me it was always that he has never faced up to the basket. He seems to shoot with his body at an angle. Just by physical mechanics he turns every jump shot into an off-balance shot.
