MU, Duke meet again

Two weeks ago, much of a teleconference previewing the Maui Invitational revolved around Duke's perfect 9-0 record in the event, but no one bothered to bring up the fact that Marquette defeated Duke last season in another holiday tournament 365 days ago ... or that the two teams could meet again.

Duke is now 11-0 in Maui ... and the rematch is here.

Dominic James was too quick for the Blue Devils last season, scoring 25 points and dishing out seven assists in a 73-62 victory.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski continued to praise Marquette's program Tuesday night.

"Coming into the tournament, we thought Marquette was the most explosive team," Krzyzewski said. "I think Marquette has to be one of the best teams in the country with that perimeter game they have."

Duke's transition game appears to have improved this season as well. Krzyzewski noted that Duke missed "about eight shots inside last year" and that rebounding could be a deciding factor in the game.

Marquette outrebounded Oklahoma State, 43-28, Tuesday, but Division II Chaminade outrebounded the Eagles by 12 on Monday.
