Title: Can Luke play PG?
Post by: Lighthouse 84 on January 22, 2015, 09:56:14 PM
I'm not serious. Just thought we needed another asinine thread about how Ners, TW and Wojo's Mojo might want anyone other than De.

Can't some realize it's Wojo's team to play who HE thinks is best suited to play PGv

I was kinda thinking we ought to give one of the walkons a shot.  You know, because this season is over and all....

Of course it is Wojo's choice he is the coach. This is an internet message board and some people are sharing their opinions. They obviously don't feel Derrick should be the starting guard. I am happy to make that declaration. I believe he is a better back up and he also adds value defensively at the 3. As long as he is our starting point guard the team will tread water and our performance will be a function in how Carlino is playing. I am not willing I accept that and believe we have more overall talent and it has to be assembled in a different way .

What? I thought we were crowd-sourcing the starting lineup?

I actually thought about the same thing today.  If all it takes to be the team's best PG is to be "groomed", then getting Luke to play PG should work out fine as long as Wojo spends the rest of the year grooming him.

As an added bonus not only would this satisfy the bench Derrick crowd, but next year it would allow MU to play Luke, Steve Taylor, John Henry Ellenson, and Matt Heldt at the same time which would really please the "let's play a super sized lineup crowd."

I get that it's a disappointing season, and people are frustrated, but changing the lineup based on factors other than how guys are preforming in practice whether it be how a guy was ranked in HS or what a guy's height is ain't gonna get it done.

Busted.  The perils of posting too late at night.

Of course most realize that it's Wojo's team to play who he thinks is best suited. Does that mean we as fans should not have an opinion. It is frustrating to many that people keep doing the same with the same mediocre results without trying something different. That is what a lot believe here.

I don't object opinions - I object to repeating said opinion 50 times in every thread and/or turning every debate into a fight about said opinion.

It almost makes me miss Tom Crean debates.

It's more than that for many Scoopers Willie.  That's why there is thread after thread after poll after poll about the same topic over and over again......and it's way past old!  The rest of us get it!  There are those who think Derrick has little to no value to the team!  Obviously two coaching staffs don't feel that way.

My other point is just the absurdity of yet another thread about the same topic.  Mods, can there be a rule that from now until eternity that all DeWil bashing has to go into one thread?

You would be changing the lineup due to how the current guy is performing in games, getting an underclassmen in the role, with a higher skill set, ceiling and scoring average.  That is why you consider making the change.  Furthermore you then play Cohen or JJJ much more for the exact same reasons mentioned above.  It would be different if we were winning games or had even just 1 quality win against an opponent this year.

Yes.

Can we limit the playing time (and/or Derrick should be on the bench) threads to maybe just 1 or 2?

It's good to have a variety of opinions. It's not good to repeat the same arguments over and over in different threads all season long. We did that last year. Not fun.

So you think it should be Henry Ellenson's decision?

A buddy of mine watched Ellenson play against Stone's Dominican last year and said for a stretch, they had Henry playing the point. His ability to shoot outside and drive strong just decimated the Dominican guards. Watching Ellenson dominate, Stone tried stepping outside for a three and missed badly. Coach screamed at him bloody murder. But to address your point, I would guess Henry Ellenson will be our point guard of the future, especially if Wojo is leaving it up to him ;)
