Hi friends,
I want you to understand that Bluiett and Macura are two incredibly gifted offensive freshmen. Have logged many hours in gyms watching both of them - Bluiett not Mr. athleticism, but flat out scores. So gifted.
I think the line reflects the fact that Xavier is excellent offensively and can create big gaps in a score quickly.
we are market
Early prediction.
Marquette by 6. Luke Fischer SOTG.
unnatural carnal knowledge we have Burr today
Is the ref drunk with that tip toss?

One of my favorites. Nothing "cool" about it but it's effin good.
I'm starting the game w/a cherry coke zero, but will likely move to coffee at half.
Like the team rebounding
Nice transition. Zone giving them trouble.

Just a reminder that there's a gameday chat
He didn't have inside position. Juan pinned him under the basket. The ball just landed under the basket.
they're moving well
Twice turned it over on the break. Like the run outs, but stay under control.
We really need to start knocking down wide open 3's on kick outs.
big time missed opportunity that first 4, should have 12-15 at this point. Too many turnovers.
Burr will be confused today... How to make calls against the Catholics when both teams are Jesuit?
Zone looking strong.

way to many bad turnovers, unforced travel, unforced carry, and multiple others. Should be up much more based on how our defense is playing.

And 2nd foul. Need a big game by Sandy/JJJ.
Rough to hold the ball for a full minute, an out of control heave at the rim being the closest to scoring, and end the possession in a moving screen.
Xavier making this easy right now, need to capitalize more on these turnovers.
Luuuuuke!
Sandy!!
Great play by Sandy, need those finishes.
We look really good right now
Stainbrook w 2 fouls. Luke 0. Bodes well.
Macura and Stainbrook both with 2 fouls.
Love the way we're playing on both ends
Matty says JJJ not in is simply coach's decision. Good game plan by Wojo.

All 4 fouls were incredibly dumb fouls too
Really want to see us hold or extend the lead before halftime. One Xavier run could undo all the great first half work.
Like that juan took it to stain rook there
So obvious. Ref was garbage there.
What a flop.
Crap
Jim Burr's first really bad call
What genius made the Villanova / Georgetown spot for FS1 in which they compare Hilliard to a Golden Eagle? Will the MU / St. John's promo compare Derrick to a Musketeer?
Taylor is so garbage
WTF was Steve thinking? ?-(
Perfect breakout and three by Derrick and Matt.
Another 4 on 2. Love it.

Agreed. That and a lot of the clips had MU in it.
If I were Woj I would forbid Juan to launch a 3.
I would like to see us attack the rim in the last 2:33 and maybe get another foul or two on Xavier.
40(ish) seconds of possession and we take two 3's. We're playing well, but the offense is still stagnant for stretches. Du.W needs to penetrate or something.
Hope to see Jajuan play some in the second, especially with Juan's foul trouble.

Great first half, poor last shot, hope we see some of JJJ in the second half.
Nice half but that last possession was just stupid...what a waste.
Nice last possession.
Cohen needed to cut to the hoop when his defender went with Derrick. That would have made Carlino's defender decide to cover Cohen in the paint or Carlino on the wing.
If we could win this game, how far do you guys think we move up in KenPom?

Can't complain about a nine point halftime lead on the road. We seem to force a ton of turnovers in the first half of games, then teams clean it up in the second half. Rebounding will have to improve.
KO going off at halftime. Xavier needs a "shot of rabies". Wtf
I would really like to get JJJ back into this. That said Sandy Cohen is solid and could really develop into a great player. Luke may not be filling up the stat sheet as much as he did in the first few games but I really, really like how he plays the game. Smart and controlled. When he has another big who can play on the floor with him he is going to be even more fun to watch than he already is.

Respectfully, Luke needs to get MUCH better. He needs to handle the ball better, avoid stupid fouls and be much stronger on the boards. I'll anticipate a lot of work in the off-season and I think he'll be a beast next year.

Love how Steve Taylor junior just watched as Davis hit the floor for the turnover. Lack of effort is how you lose games like this.
Absolute flop on that 3.
Every call against us now. Not great play, but certainly not getting any help, especially when Reynolds ran Duane over and got the tie up.
here we go on that drought again, the basket is just tiny right now. not really that surprised though
Shouldn't have been offensive, but I'll take out after the last few bad calls the other way.

As the rebounding gap closes, MU widens the turnover gap. Really bad senior play with the ball. Get the damn ball into Fischer.
Depth is costing us this. Just not enough bodies especially with JJJ not playing.
This could get ugly quick...
It continues to amaze me that they cannot get it to Luke. There are open lanes.

DiUlio is on our side. Nothing to worry about.

Typical
Carlino turning into a TO machine as well as a chuck machine. Meanwhile Juan has taken a huge dump in this game. Choke City in 2nd half.

It is always easier for the team that got drilled in the first half to come out strong. There are clear things they need to adjust to and they can game plan for it.
The team that is up, basically can only say lets keep it up, which plays into the 2nd half game plan of Xavier.

I don't remember us playing the 1-3-1 trapping yet this half that got us so many steals in the first half. Maybe we switch now?

Per Kevin O'Neil: Marquette tried to go loosey goosey with the 3 by Carlino--you live by the 3 and die by the 3.

Willie WTF?
Last year whenever anyone got hot, it would have been mandatory to do 26 passes and get 13 random paint touches per possession before they could shoot. If you've ever played ball, you know when you're hot, you want the ball, and you know you have a better chance of making a basket than anyone else. A good coach rides that, a bad coach coaches it out. Carlino kept MU in this game. Single handedly, because no-one else is capable of stepping up.
I would have liked to see a better play at the end, but with 7 guys and our talent level, keeping it close was an achievement.
Quote from: MARQ_13 on January 17, 2015, 01:05:28 PM

We all know the root cause. But it's a glaring problem that needs to have something be done. If that means throwing in the two 6'5 walk on's and having them throw the ball around for 33 seconds on a shot clock, so be it.
Quote from: GooooMarquette on January 17, 2015, 01:07:30 PM

Did you bother watching?
Didn't expect to win at Xavier but the first 20 minutes had me getting greedy......another reminder yah gotta play all 40, 3's are an equalizer in hoops, love the effort but gotta figure out these funky No-O stretches that appear every 2nd half
As long as JuJuan learned his lesson, this defeat is a victory in my book.
Quote from: MARQ_13 on January 17, 2015, 01:05:28 PM

Could be short bench. We were not nearly as aggressive on defense in the second half as we were in the first.
Today it was Xavier realizing they could go small and we wouldn't hurt them. The extra ball handler negated our pressure defense. Foul trouble hurt us for the first time this year.

Nope Matt basically had to come and get it himself. Which in effect took out the rhythm of the shot.
Not why we lost, but pretty sad we could run a play properly

We all know the root cause. But it's a glaring problem that needs to have something be done. If that means throwing in the two 6'5 walk on's and having them throw the ball around for 33 seconds on a shot clock, so be it.
Well, guess we have to wait to hear what the scoop is on JJJ but I don't see a reason he couldn't have at least logged a few minutes in the second half when the defense was giving up wide open three after wide open three.
That's 2 games where MU has only gone 7 deep in big east play. Both times they collapsed in the second half and blew a double digit lead. Just hope JJJ isn't in the doghouse. #8strong
After a loss like this, I always think to myself, "Thanks, Buzz."
Put another shooter in there and use Carlino as a decoy.

Good strategy willie. Don't go to your best shooter (and the guy who hit the winner three days ago). Send Wojo a memo....
That is your strategy. Have him take an off balance 3, 23 feet from the basket with 3 guys on him, and two guys open? You send Wojo the memo, because that was a terrible play. When everybody knows Carlino will shoot, it is time to get the ball to an open guy. That is good strategy. Did you ever hear of it? Instead of mocking me, use your valuable expertise to send Wojo a memo with all of it contained in there. Crickets!

I didn't criticize the play. We ran what we had to run and it didn't work.
