Another awesome moment for modern journalism.

"...the 12-2 Pirates climbed into The Associated Press Top 25 at No. 19 this week...  Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard allowed his players to celebrate the national ranking, the Pirates' highest since being ranked No. 22 on Jan. 30, 2001..."

If I have this correct, that makes 6 BE teams that have been ranked at least one week this year.

Nova, STJ, Georgetown, Hall, Butler and Creighton (week 3)

Mu, X, Prov and Depaul have not gotten any votes this year.

For a 10 team conference, I think this is pretty good.

Xavier and providence have both revived votes( X this week) MU
And DePaul only teams to not get votes.

In the AP. 7 total teams have been ranked as Providence was 25th in the Coaches poll the same week Creighton appeared in the AP but not the Coaches poll. 70% of the conference has been ranked at some point this year.

Good for them - and they had 2 good wins without Whitehead.

Seton Hall is legit.

We will find out tomorrow if they can win on the road against an average team.

Eh. They were in the game for 35 minutes. They are pretty good, not great.

No question. That's a difficult road game, but a true top 15 or 20 team should be able to take care of business @ Xavier.

Xavier was an 7.5 point favorite.

Which goes to show what the real experts think of the Big East.

The clowns that populate this board will go to grave doing so, but relying on a set of beauty contest rankings by disengaged SIDs and/or "journalists" with inherent bias will always steer you wrong. Listen to Vegas.

You are 100% right, 'Lanche. Many here say Vegas isn't "predictive", that they set their lines seeking 50% of the wagers on each side. That is nonsense. They set their lines on predictive data, not rankings or who the public "likes" or roots for. Fair value. Each team with a theoretical 50% chance of covering. They may adjust slightly for teams favored by the public (Cowboys, Yankees, etc.) but not much. They get run over on some games (Bears Super Bowl, e.g.) but they win games where the public is all over one team, too. It's math. They make every game a theoretical coin flip, and the public has to win about 52.4% of them to break even. Properly capitalized, over time they can't lose if their data is accurate.

This may of been more of a true line, because how many people actually betting in Vegas are Providence or Seton Hall fans? Therefore, the fan base in this game had virtually no effect on this line.

Those who don't believe in Vegas' lines I just presume are multi-millionaires since they are constantly beating Vegas' lines and making millions.

If you don't believe Vegas is good at setting lines you can make a lot of money.  It's that simple.  The reality is Vegas is really good at setting lines and that is why there are extremely few multi-millionaires who are sports bettors.

Ahh, got it.  Was confused by the wording of your original post.  I absolutely agree with this.  Very rarely are they far off, especially when it's a game between pretty even teams.  It's quite impressive, actually.

Yep, proves my point that they're not a true top 15 or 20 team at this point, and that the rankings are indeed quite imperfect. That being said, Seton Hall belonged at 19 given their recent run (albeit for a short while).

Seton Hall with another road win yesterday . That should move them a bit in the rankings , or at the very least solidify their position .

A win @Creighton does not erase a loss @Xavier. I would expect them to move down in the rankings. Not out of the rankings but down.

They were a 7.5 point underdog at Xavier. Pollsters may punish their 1-1 road trip but Seton Hall can't be disappointed.

Seton Hall better stay in polls, after a 1-1 road trip. Xavier doesn't lose at home and they are a tournament team.
