Title: MU & Jujuan's recent performance & a look at Morgan State
Post by: andymartinelli2 on December 27, 2014, 10:03:15 PM
Eleven games into the Wojo Era, a few things have become clear about the new regime. Some took longer than others... https://misix.com/golden-eagles-multisource-their-scoring (https://misix.com/golden-eagles-multisource-their-scoring)

I want to see JaJuan put a string of games against some good competition before I get all excited.

I agree. We could say that about every MU player so far this year though.

QuoteThe turnover thing isn't a big concern for Marquette, which has been fairly steady in that regard all year, turning in just one outing with a turnover percentage higher than 20% (Ohio State: 23.9%). Free throws are a different matter, as the Golden Eagles' four losses coincide with their four lowest free-throw rates of the season. Even their marks in the last two games against North Dakota and Alabama A&M weren't spectacular (40.7% and 42.9%, respectively).

If they can get it back up to where it was in wins over Arizona State (65.3%), Tennessee (62.1%), Georgia Tech (68.1%) and NJIT (66.7%) — and maybe even if they don't — they stand a good chance of taking a four-game winning streak into Big East play.

With all due respect, MU's free throw rate vs. Morgan State is the least of my interest relative to them winning the game. (Although I expect MU to get to the line plenty.)

Turnovers on the other hand - far more interested in. Would love another sub-20% turnover game..

I felt that JJJ would be a big beneficiary when  Luke was eligible, and so far it has appeared to be the case. Hopefully he can carry this through into the Big East season. It would make a big difference for us if we had another consistent scoring threat. The key to him becoming a consistent threat, will be his ability(or lack therof) to play solid D. He needs to do that to get the minutes. I am pretty confident if he gets the minutes he can put points on the board.

Agreed, except for Juan.  Juan's shooting has been up and down, but his defense, rebounding and overall leadership have made him the one consistent contributor for MU this season.

I would also say that Duane and Matt have showed up against quality competition.  My concern about JJJ going back to last year is that he absolutely feasts on poor competition (save ASU for some reason), but then disappears against quality.

I don't know. "A" doesn't necessarily = "B"  Last year you could blame his poor performance against better teams on being a freshman and because of Buzzes head games. It is too early to tell so far this year.  Your concern about jjj may be correct, we will see.

Agreed. The sample size is not yet big enough to equal a "trend."

Our leader in 3P% and FG% is the one who has had up and down shooting?
