2013: #10 class in nation on 247 sports
JaJuan Johnson - #31 overall
Duane Wilson - #59 overall
Deonte Burton - #50 overall
Jameel McKay - #7 overall JUCO (4*)
John Dawson - #277 overall
2015: #6 class in nation on 247 sports
Henry Ellenson - #10 overall
Nick Noskowiak - #80 overall
Matt Heldt - #93 overall
Haanif Cheatham - #70 overall
-------------------------------------
Signing that 2013 class seems so long ago...
Also, those in the know; is Noskowiak a redshirt candidate? Can't wait to see that jump shot @ MU

At this point, I don't see how he could possibly be a redshirt candidate. Even if Duane starts at PG, with Carlino and Derrick gone, Nick would be it for backup at the point. It's far more likely that he would start then redshirt.

Impossible to say now, there's a lot of time between now and the tip-off of next season. We have three open scholarships for next year. There could be another freshman added, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-2 transfers, either mid-season, JUCO, or immediately eligible grad students.

If I had my choice, I would choose option 3, immediately eligible grad students. One year rentals providing depth and leadership.

Especially if they are 6'10" or taller.
Heldt's going to take a year or two and I think Ellenson is a 4 ideally.

The staff has been looking at a lot of JUCOs. There are still a few freshmen out there we are watching, but tough to tell how serious that is because I haven't seen any offers confirmed yet.
I also haven't yet really looked at who will be eligible on the grad transfer front. I have to think the staff would like another point guard, but they've been focusing a lot of their attention on wing players from what I've seen. Honestly, seems like our least needed position. My wish list would be a point and a center.

I'm wondering about how the staff intends to use Cheatham. I'm wondering if we see him at the 1 some as well as the 2.
"At 6 foot 5 and 175 pounds, Cheatham is used in the 3 and 4 positions, but he has the makeup of a college guard. Though he says he still needs to work on finishing through contact, Cheatham looks most comfortable and is most dangerous with the ball in his hands, as he is a threat to shoot, drives well and is an unselfish passer."

In that context wing makes sense:
Wilson - 1/2
Nick - 1/2
Cohen - 2?/3/4?
JjJ - 2
Wally - 3/4
Henry - 3/4/5
Teve - 4/5
Luke - 4/5
Heldt - 4/5
We really need a veteran 5(grad), and I think a juco PG and a wing

I don't disagree with this at all. That said, wouldn't some heads explode if Buzz left, was replaced with a devotee of the Duke system, and within a year we had 2 JUCOs transferring in? :D

Technically it be a grad transfer and a juco...so only one.
And would it be so bad if those heads did explode? ;D

LOL I agree. And it depends, with Levin, Burton, and Dawson all out, there are three openings. Be very interesting to see what Wojo does with them.

Got ya. I think between Steve, Luke, Henry, Heldt, and Cohen you have five players who can play the two post positions. I think that is pretty good but we can always improve.
I would like a freshman switchable, a graduate transfer PG, and maybe a regular transfer or juco big

My only quibble is I don't want Cohen anywhere near the post. I think he is a perfect 3 and to try and put him in the post would to turn him into Juan, serviceable but not living up to his potential

I can agree with that. Would definitely have Cohen as the last option to play the post. Emergency situations only.

Can you do this for Butler and Creighton. I guess what I am asking is what do numbers mean? Their players are not as highly rated but they seem to be playing winning basketball thus far.
I would predict a mid-season transfer and a freshman.
Saw a little blip on twitter yesterday that Wojo was going after Davon Dillard. #94 in ESPN top 100 for 2015. Dillard even retweeted the original tweet?

We are definitely in on Dillard. Hometown Purdue is perceived to be the frontrunner

I thought when we landed Cheatham, we would be out of the Dillard race. With Burton transferring, though, I could see a renewed push for him.
