Title: Wisconsin looks pretty good this year, but No. 2 in the nation? Really?
Post by: MU Avenue on December 06, 2014, 01:43:14 PM
This is obviously a solid year for University of Wisconsin at Madison basketball, but is this Badgers team really one of the best in the land? Wow!

I fault no one for success, but I find is hard to believe that Wisconsin will dominate many opponents as the season progresses.

The Badgers are not what I was expecting.

They won't be anymore because of their loss to Duke.   Kentucky, Duke, everybody else.

It's what they do.  Play slow, play close games, play smart, and win close games.  Lose close games to better teams, win close games to worse teams.  It's what Bo has always done.

I'm no Badger defender, but give me a break.  THey are clearly a top 10 team based on talent, depth, and coaching.  It took Duke shooting the lights out to beat them.  My God, it's December 6, the season is just underway.  Do you really think they or any college team has peaked yet?  They had two days to prepare for us after a physically and emotionally draining loss to Duke.

I hope they underachieve this year, but you're either a) clueless, or b) letting biases get in the way of what's obvious if you think UW is overrated based on their performance today.

Dekker is playing hurt. That impacted them. But I do agree, didn't look like #2 in the nation material to me.

HutchwasClutch, it is OK to disagree with other posters without getting all freaky and spitting up all over yourself.

No one here is "clueless." And no one here has written that the University of Wisconsin at Madison is "overrated."

The point is that the Badgers did not look as strong or as foreboding as some would have others believe.

Yes, HutchwasClutch, my assessment of the Badgers is, indeed, based on how they played today. Imagine that!

Reverse the roles - if we were a (supposedly) really good team and UW wasn't, I hope nobody here would be saying we aren't that good after beating our rival by double digits on their home floor and holding them to 29% shooting.  We'd laugh off UW fans who tried to belittle us based on that performance; road wins in hostile environments are commendable even if they aren't flashy.

Well, you're clueless if that's your opinion based on today, because it's one game.   Your post clearly implied you think they're overrated.

Grow up if you can't take a strong response to what you posted.

HutchwasClutch, your use of "clueless" is amusing. Just relax, stop getting all freaky and quit spitting up all over yourself.

We are discussing basketball here. Find perspective and stay under control.

You are probably not in a real good position to be telling others here to "grow up."

Wisconsin will fall in the polls because Marquette exposed them as a sub-par offensive team on national television. They are good, but more top-10 than top-2.

Losing to Duke was incidental, I stand by the belief that any drop in polls is because of Marquette.  ;D

What more evidence do you need? Did Ben Brust lead them to final four? They should have been in the championship game. Get over it, they are clearly a top 5 team.

I wrote earlier that the University of Wisconsin at Madison basketball team looks pretty good this year, but does not strike me as one of the top-two teams in the nation.

This prompted some here to flip a lid and make the discussion oddly personal.

So this site is suddenly filled with Badgers boosters who begin snarling and foaming if anyone writes that Wisconsin is quite good but not great?

The University of Wisconsin at Madison has a solid team that will be ranked all season. That team, however, will fall soon from the ranks of the elite. Guaranteed!

I will join the "less than impressed with Bucky" club.  I have not seen any of their other games this year, and was expecting a lot more than what I saw today.  Yeah, I think Bo will get them playing better, but this game, meh.

I agree. They will be there down the stretch. The bigger concern should be how will MU look with Luke eligible?

Hey good teams make other teams look bad.  Wisconsin is good and they made Marquette look bad.  Marquette is good and they made Wisconsin look bad.  Unfortunately, just not as bad as Wisconsin made Marquette look.

Rivalry game, early in the year, away from home.

They are a good team, but our defense has done a total 180 from the Omaha game to this game.

We are going to play teams tight all year, and give good programs fits with the zone defense.

If that's a #2 team, then MU may make the NCAA.
