Sparty sucks. Warriors rule.
GO WARRIORS!!!
That is all.
Livin on a prayer....
Let's do this.
Gold is good
Juan with two quick fouls. Not good. We'll need a breakout game from Deonte.
Can Steve only play against Big 10 teams?

2 made, 0 missed, 0 dribbles.
Good passing the ball to the open man.
Going down hill now
I would love to see Jajuan square up on jumpers. That sideways shot just seems awkward.
Yeah getting real ugly .
Lucky valentine missed that one
There is no way Carlino wasn't fouled there.
My wife had a great comment..."the good thing about Marquette sucking is we don't have to listen to Vitale...oh crap".

Yeah about decided to just pass on the game once I heard his voice.
You can see the difference of a team that knows how to attack a zone. Playing well so far but MSU is far better prepared than Georgia Tech was.
Deonte looks motivated. I think he got a message last night.
8-0 sparty run with Derrick on the bench.
At least we're playin' better than the last time against Sparty when dickhead was coachin', hey?
Burton real active right now.
Needs to convert the freebies and bunnies though.
lotta contact on burton's FGA's. not getting calls. He's really working it down low including on the boards.
Juan playing with two fouls.
We're rollin.
Our guys are moving well in the zone
A good couple of minutes for Deonte
Refs are actually calling traveling this game, I like it! Zone is giving them some trouble.
4 straight defensive stops, Spartans brought some on themselves but damn good defense
Duane has a future.
Damn, I jinxed him. He walked.

Happens to the best of us
We're getting some great chances. Just a lot lf unlucky rim bounces.
Duane and Deonte find ways to get themselves good looks a lot.
Want to see how much Fischer helps Burton. I think it will be a ton.
very solid start. quick question, anyone have an idea of whats the deal with the white waistband on a bunch of the warriors' shorts?
Wojo and his staff can coach. This team will be much better in March...!
Might be their jockstrap, aina?
Good performance so far. Of course the worry was getting blown out. If we can play with Michigan State we should be able hang with anyone in the league.
How many threes will MSU hit from the right corner?

Teve!

Both of MSU's tallest players (6-foot-9 forwards Costello and Schilling) have two fouls.
Deonte is playing like a man tonight. Love it.
Carlino doing a good job of being a decoy and finding others.
Love the hustle.
Looks like some of these guys have their waist bands rolled to shorten the length of those shorts
That right there is going to be the turning point. Book it.
Momentum changer. 3 missed layups and then a 3 pt play on the other end.
Suddenly our guards look like Steve around the rim ;D
Wow - how many layups can we have rim out. And they just get a friendly roll.....

damn, so many missed bunnies
Yeah this is bad now.
If it's a layup I can make in a D1 game. You gotta make it.
Good time out. One of those frustrating stretches. MU is doing everything right but the ball won't fall right now. And suddenly Sparty heats up while the ball is rolling all over the rim for MU. Just one of those things.
C'mon Juan.
We're just handing them momentum.
Double dagger. Juan makes the play and hands it back and the Spartans throw a dagger.
What a difference the zone has made so far.
couple of clutch 3s by 'lino and jujuan or this could have gotten ugly. overall pleased with the effort this half. entertaining game so far.
Quote from: Vander Blue Man Group on November 28, 2014, 08:46:09 PM

Like this game a lot. Enjoying the effort. Just the missed bunnies are killing me.
I am starting to have hope for the season. BTW, New Belgium Abbey, in case anybody cares.
2x we have our hands on a steal. 2 x MSU hits jumpers. As frustrating as the missed layups.
Someone outta kick Valentine in the nads, hey?
Dumb, dumb foul by Teve.
Crowd getting into it too! gotta keep up the intensity!

2014 Bourbon County Stout :)
I'll take that first half.
If they beat us by hitting 3s and long 2s then so be it.
Nice job by Juan of getting back in the game and not picking up a 3rd foul.
solid, solid half. very good effort. couple of frustrating bounces (missed bunnies and almost steals that turned into Spartan baskets) but only being down 1 is pretty sweet considering we are 13.5 point underdogs.
Wish we coulda grabbed that board after valentines early miss. Still held em.
Frustrating because I feel like we should actually be up 5 right now.
But realistically should just be thrilled with the exceeded expectations.
Hope we still have energy left. Our guys were hustling like never before this year. Wow. Impressive D - go Wojo. Go Marquette!
If we win, I am going to find some New Belgium Abbey for Sunday
Agreed. Tough to complain. Playing solid defense, rebounding well, getting the looks we want. If the bunnies fell, we would be up by a handful. C'est la vie.

Yup, with Carlino shooting 2 for 10, Dwil scoreless and Juan a bit tentative with two fouls.
Good to see Burton early and being effective.
Good balance too. Everyone but cohen(barely played) has scored.
It would be nice if carlino could make a 2 pt basket or 2.
If nothing else we look like we belong in this game. Hopefully this will mute some of the leftover Omaha angst.

Kinda makes it sting more lol.
Right now it seems like we play better to the competition.
Let's see who makes better half time adjustments. Need to be ready for them trying to bust the inside of the zone. Co e out man to man then switch back or stick with zone?
Derrick should have practiced 25,000 layups this summer instead of 3's....

Every bounce has practically gone against MU...and we've had hands on numerous balls to force turnovers and give it right back..and then they hit a shot.
Great execution on the O and D ends at this point. Kudos to Wojo and staff. We look to have a very good game plan.
Like that Wojo basically always has 1 of 2 of Juan or Steve on the floor with Burton being the back up to either if off the floor. Smart.
Cohen looks a little overmatched these last couple of games.

He's improved a lot offensively. Has had some nice curl plays to the hoop if he's going right. I think part of his issue is he's just too strong. He rarely, rarely misses shots short, even his missed free throws are almost always long.

Managed to grab 3 bottles today, I'll hold the other 2 for a while, but couldn't wait to open 1 right away.
But if Marquette wins, I might need another on Sunday!
If the last two games are the new normal for MU. If Wojo and crew continue to grow as much as a coaching staff as they have in the last 10 days. If the young guys continue to get better. If MU continues to play a solid zone without fouling......it is going to be OK and MU is going to be at worst competitive.

Being too strong has nothing to do with it. Look at Lebron, he's a lot stronger and doesn't seem to affect him at all.

Valentine is too open.
Things looking grim again
Valentine playing the assassin.
And then it all came ungluuuuue
Another near steal that turns into a dagger jumper. Damn.
Juan bunny miss
Dwil, well....
Turnover
Seven point MSU lead.
Keep dribbling at top of key Dwil.
This possession is huge for Marquette. Need some points her. Let's Go Marquette!
I went to Highway Mikes in Kenosha. Had the 2013 G.I. Bourbon County Barleywine and the Southern Tier Creme Brulee on tap. Barleywine was a bit much for me, but the Creme Brulee was sensational.
Should be playing a box and one with Derrick on Valentine.

Valentine had a career-high 19 for Michigan State yesterday. He's got 16 already today. 17:31 left in the game.

Taylor hurt, Dwil hurt on same play
Valentine made MU come out of the zone. Then Clark rains a straightaway 3. Whose man?
Duane looks great.
Deonte in a nutshell in 12 seconds. Phenomenal move down low. Horrible man defense. He will get better.
Man they are raining right now.
You guys see Derrick as he went to bench? Two straight player bumped him on accident coming to sub in and 3rd bump he just shoved towel boy lol

MSU shooting percentage HAS to come down. Gotten some nice bounces that have all fallen in, while MU has had many shots roll around and out. We are in this game.
Carlino can shoot you into a game, he can shoot you out of a game. He has been more complete tonight and has only forced a couple shots. No complaints.

Well, there it goes.

This is about to take a nasty turn. Charge call on Deonte, rolled ankle for STjr. Ick.
Gotta go on a run.
Well be interesting to see how we respond.
Valentine is killing us, bummer.
It would appear that Izzo knows how to attack a zone.
Game over.
JJJ is lost on both ends
Well, this game is probably over with that Trice dagger. And of course Dick Vitale is aroused.
Anyone think MSU is overrated? Some said it earlier today.
Not, they can shoot the heck out of the ball and have a great transition game.
Has Valentine missed from 3 yet tonight?
ESPN needs to put Vitale out to pasture. The guy is an incorrigible blowhard, who makes games very difficult to listen to.
Great Defensive game by Marquettes backcourt......
Said Nobody....
Im so over #12..... Whens Graduation
Vitale is killing me.
Observations:
1) I can't stand Dick Vitale
2) MSU shooting unbelievable
3) MU improving
4) Duane Wilson will be very good
5) MU will get much better when
a) Fischer added to the lineup
b) Derrick Wilson plays a lot less

Absolutely overrated. Just because they're better than us doesn't mean they are a top-25 team. Rather, the trouble they had indicates they aren't deserving of their ranking.
MSU 67.6 from the field.
100% from FT Line
58% from 3
Hard to win with those kind of numbers....and I thought our D was actually fairly good thus far other than losing Valentine in the zone rotation.
We played well i thoguht, MSU having the best 3 pt shooting day they will have all year,
Have they missed a shot in the second half?
Wow.vitale is bad. He sounds hammered. He just went on for about 3 minutes about syracuse broadcasters. Who cares, Dick?
Just a really tough stretch for MU. They could be right in this game.
I hope I spoke too soon. Down 8 with plenty of time left.
Damnit steve. Just give him that
Man defense looked good for about 20 seconds then totally broke down.
Derrick with quite the rebound
DERRICK MIRACLE 2-2 ALRIGHT!
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor! Derrick with the big board and FT's. WTH!
shooters roll!! 2-2 11
Book it!!!

And now the ticky tack fouls are going against MU. Pendulum swing and all that.
Hate Vitale so much.....

Not sure whether this is worse than Aikman/Buck calling a Packers game, pretty close.
That should have been an intentional foul. That was not a play on the ball - he couldn't reach it. It was a play on his arm.

Textbook pick and roll. And then Duane makes a young man foul.

What? LOTS of people on this board pointed out last season how so many of the great teams around the nation only go 7-8 deep.
And the smart ones pointed out that we are not deep.
Is there anymore perfect evidence about what this team will be all season than the win vs GT, close loss vs MSU, close win vs NJIT, loss vs UN-O.
Just a complete example of: they'll lose to teams they shouldn't and beat teams they shouldn't

You go 8-9 deep typically...not 11 like Buzz did last year. Not a good idea to go 7 deep when you are undersized and playing back to back nights..
Lets just keep it in the spread....
Call off the dogs, wojo.

Not bad. Disappointed obviously with the loss but they played a lot better than I figured they would. I'm encouraged.
This game is great experience for our young guys. Down by 16 and they did not give up. Never had any expectations of winning this game. When Luke joins the team we should win our fare share. We should have a good returning class to join our fine recruiting class next season.

All in all, lots of positives can be taken from this game. Good effort on the part of the guys. MSU had a great night shooting the ball, some of which was the result of our defense and them getting open looks, but they also knocked down a lot of contested shots. We had a lot of shots roll around and out.
Great signs from Duane and Deonte. Steve was much better tonight. Juan looks like he'll be a consistent and effective player this year. Get Luke in the mix. More Duane. Less Derrick. We could be good by February.

Agree with this take, however, Duane has averaged 32 minutes last 4 games. Can't get much more, unless you want him to roll all 40.

That's a good point...he could probably go another few. He looks like a guy who can play all day.
I'm a little concerned with Deonte's conditioning though. He looks a little out of shape. Not quite as explosive as last year - and yes, I know he's had some nice highlight reel dunks this season.

We run 2 point guards. No one will average 35+, so the law of averages dictates that even if Carlino and Duane both play 30, Derrick will still get 20.
