How did he ride the pine last year with Buzz? I don't get it. Is there some background I don't know?

J3 with Juan as runner up...great to see JJJ put it together with real playing time...just as nice to see Juan play solidly.  Juan was all over the floor as he always has been.

Close between Juan and TreyJ. I'd give it to TreyJ because of the blocks.

JJJ was great on offense and defense. When he made mistakes he came right back hard with a good play.

24 minutes from a frosh.  Like it.  Would have been unheard of last year.

Hard to believe, but JJJ actually had 25+ four times in non-conference last year.  Though something tells me Cohen won't be limited to garbage time against non-cupcakes and completely benched by February.

And he had a few good games against those cupcakes -- his 18 points on 3-3 from 3's against Cal St. Fullerton is not that far off last night's tally. To my eye the difference was that he was a defensive menace relative to last year where he (and everyone else) looked lost on D. Whether it's a simpler system or just learning and maturity, he played a big part in disrupting on D leading to some easy baskets. JJJ gets my vote for S.O.T.G. and hope it is the first of many to come!

Agreed.  Juan looked very good too.  He has finally filled out physically and looked real confident out there too.

I was pleasantly surprised -- actually, make that thrilled -- with Jajuan's defensive showing last night. He used his long arms and quick hands wonderfully and stayed with his man quite well. Plus, he showed nice instincts on when to gamble a little and when not to. That is definitely an improvement over last season; even in the few non-con games in which he got to play extended minutes, he often was out of position.

His offense shouldn't have surprised me, given his reputation coming out of high school, but again I obviously was very pleased with his efficiency and the variety in his game. Hit two 3's, slashed to the hoop, made FTs. Nice.

He is my stud choice but I don't think it's a landslide over Juan, who set the tone early, did a pretty darn nice job defending much bigger players and seemed much more in control while providing his trademark energy. If he had finished a little more often around the rim and hit a few more FTs, he easily could have been the stud.

As a team, the Warriors missed too many free throws though.  Must be all that practicing....

Valid point, thanks.  I guess my recollection is more concentrated on the second half of last year's season.  I hope that you are right in your projection for non-cupcake time (though I suspect UTM was not a complete cupcake) and I believe you will be.  Cohen certainly did look poised, and his offensive production late in the game was great to see, as well.

Teve and J Cubed sat at the end of last season because Bertrand knew they were gone. Hill and Harris were slotted to slide into their spots. It was no surprise when JJJ decided to stay that Hill asked for his release to follow Buzz.

JJJ looked really good in the Fullerton game last year. Quality minutes didn't follow.
