Here's the thread in its entirety:

Topic: Marquette Basketball

-Hey they look pretty good this year dont they?

      - Marquette has a basketball team?

-Marquette features 6'1 Sr. G William Gates, who played his high school ball at St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois.

-Rick Majerus was once an assistant coach at Marquette.

                                    - marquette and USC are the most overrated teams in the country

                                              - But USC has O.J. Mayo!  Remember him?  He was going to go to K-State.

So there's a Hoop Dreams reference, not much else of note.

seriously...part of the reason i can hardly tolerate reading this message board is that people post threads like this...there is nothing remotely important regarding mu basketball on the ku message board. i mean...it was helpful to learn that not everyone knows marquette has a basketball team, but...

let's try and make sure posts about marquette basketball are actually legit and can generate actual discussion.

If you need some help there chief, the post on the KU board is simple. A KU fan should know MU is because Crean has exactly one more Final Four appearance than Self.

What do we care if Kansas fans don't have a clue about other programs basketball teams.  I really don't care how in the dark other people are.

I have a hard time believing that any true Kansas "fan" would not know that Marquette has a basketball team considering that 1) we're a nationally ranked program and 2) we played them in the Final 4 all of 5 years ago.

I could be wrong but I would guess that there was sarcasm coming from the person who said he didn't even know MU had a basketball program.  The sarcasm probably came from the fact that they beat us by 33 in that Final Four game...

One thing I have noticed on other team's chatboards vs. MU chatboards is that they talk a lot more smack to and about other teams, while on MU boards, we spend a lot of time either trashing MU or defending ourselves from MU fans who are trashing MU.   An interesting dynamic.

Of course the Kansas post was sarcasm, but so was mine.

Very true Tower.  Though when our games with Looeyville and Pitt come up the trash talking will be at its usual height... and there will some rallying around each other then... at least the MU boards can get along for those short periods.   :)

ever see a Badger board, all it is about is how great the badgers are and how terrible the rest were... best day was to go the day they were #1 last year, to only lose 4 hours later to Izzo, best transition ever on a message board...

went from "finally the respect we deserve"

to "what went wrong?"

maybe it was because they were over-rated, just a thought, but a new season is here

>>Marquette has a basketball team?<<

Have we made Kansas a state yet? I thought it was still bleeding.

I think the "self-bashing" is rooted in the search for a stellar season. High expectations come from MU fans. It's too easy to bash other teams when you're always snagging top recruits and your recruiting classes are almost perennially in the Top 25. We could bash on DePaul and Rutgers...but for what? The criticism of MU shooting nights and lack of frontcourt play (despite a Dwight "Howard" Burke night) is deserved.

Now, that we're ranked #10 in the polls, I don't think I'm alone here in feeling that it's our position to lose - and we can lose it easily if our lackluster play continues.
