Isiah Briscoe 13th in Espn commits to Kentucky along with Skal Labbisseire to give Coach cal the current number 1 class. It just gives me headaches to think that St. Johns recruited briscoe for 4 years and Cal recruits him for 3 months and gets him with ease. St. Johns better get some guys because when Jordan and Obekba leave they could just derail.

Writing is on the wall for lavin. I will say I was never expecting briscoe to go to SJU. East coast version of depaul only with more slightly marginal seasons as opposed to being terrible . They try desperately to keep their kids home but fail because they're trying to sell these kids on ancient history. The players love it till they realize they'd be better off playing at a school that's not on life support

That's why I would hate being a college coach. Your livelihood—and mental health—rests on the whims of high school kids. Would drive me insane. You recruit a kid for years...busting your tail to cultivate a relationship—then a Kentucky (or Kansas, Duke, UNC,) swoops in and grabs him. Talk about stressful.
Yeah, most coaches make a good salary, but still, a tough way to make a living.

Becky fans can hate on Wojo for grabbing Wally all they want, but I think he realized he needed to do something to be able to compete with Kentucky. Spending a schollie on a role player was well worth the investment.

And Wally may surprise some people next year. He's not a stiff. Extremely athletic. High energy. I could see him developing into a solid role player off the bench. Well worth the investment.

Should also have some great chemistry with one of our star players

Of course, that doesn't hurt. But I think it's wrong to suggest Wally is a hack who has no business being near a college hoops court (I'm not accusing you of doing this).
Doubt he'll score 30 a game...but he'll be an instant energy guy off the bench. Not a bad thing to have.

Who cares? Lotta coaches recruit guys for years and don't get them. Walter Downing comes to mind and that was more than 4 years.
As far as Labisseire is concerned, I will be shocked if he ever plays a minute of college hoops.

It matters cause it could have a turning point for the johnnies. Now, they in a deep hole after this year as far as recruitimg. Why do you think Skal wont play?

Then that's on Lavin - not Cal.
Skal attended a very questionable prep school. Ineligible this year and I expect he will go overseas next year.

So we should hate success?
All else being equal, if I were a top recruit, I'd want to play for Calipari instead of Lavin, too.

Tough one for the Johnnies .
I wouldn't be surprised to see Dillard go to St. John's though
Stupid Calipari. He wanted a player and got him. What a jerk! It's hard to believe he doesn't care more about St. John's!

There's a sliminess to Cal that makes him easy to dislike.
Dammit Johnnies! You always do this to me.

And it matters because it helps the Big East overall. More stud players...better teams. I want Big East teams be as strong as possible. Lifts the conference profile.

Agreed. I was a little pissed last night when I heard St. Johns lost out on this kid.
St. John's has had plenty of stud players the past few years, and hasn't managed to do much with them. Lavin seems to think you just need to throw 5 talented players on the court, and they'll figure out how to win. Hasn't exactly turned SJU into a powerhouse....

No rationale is needed for sports hate. Hating a team for no other reason than they're really good every year is perfectly acceptable.

Fair enough.
I hope to hate Marquette big-time very soon!!!
Oh wait ...

This. He very deserving of a MUBB scholarship in his own right. Not turning a blind eye to the fact that his brother made him more attractive, but I am excited to see Wally on the court next year!
