Title: Scheyer
Post by: mviale on November 22, 2006, 11:16:59 PM
Did Scheyer have a bad game or is this kid overrated?  Duke board doesn not have faith in Paulus, even though dickie V was singing his praise early in the game.

From all the press that Scheyer got in the Chicago area the past couple of years, I think he's the real deal.  The telecast last night compared him to fellow Glenbrook North alum Chris Collins and that hasn't been the first time I heard it as a valid comparison.

I think he will be a good Duke player but unlike years long past, he'll be expected to produce right away to justify his high ranking and McDonalds status.  Duke is losing players to the NBA at a rate it didn't experience 10 or even 5 years ago.  It's a new mind set down there and they'll have to adjust.  That said, I don't doubt that Coach K will adjust just fine.   ;D

my good friend went to high school(or close to? not very clear), from where Scheyer is, and he seems to think hes the real deal, and calls him the next Reddick... however I think there is some bias in that, but the kid has looked good in every game except the Marquette one, maybe our intensity at the guard position threw him off... and he did a good acting job to get those 3 free-throws, he should have had a goose-egg for points in that game

Chris Collins was not even close to as good as Scheyer. He had a poor game vs. MU, but had two solid ones previously. He's going to be great. I don't know if he's the shooter than Redick was, but Redick is not the passer that Scheyer is. Needless to say, MU would love to have him.

I don't think Scheyer has the speed to contend with the NBA gazelles or even our guards.

But he was recruited for the Duke "system" - screens and offensive movement - and would experience the JJ Redick success. He has a good shot and will do well at the college level. But the NBA....the game is SO much quicker for him.
