Title: 2014-15 College Basketball Preview: The 20 transfers you need to know
Post by: radome on November 05, 2014, 06:19:41 AM
Nothing new but ... OBTW first on the list ... alphabetical.

Spell check for Wojo comes up as vexatious ... so far, at least, seems to be the least vexatious coach since Hank.

Matt Carlino

New team: Marquette

Old team: BYU

Comment: Steve Wojciechowski might have an up-and-down first season at MU, but Carlino's offense and usage will probably earn him a couple of wins he wouldn't have otherwise had. The former Cougar averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.4 rebounds at BYU a year ago -- and he's pretty adept at getting into the passing lane for a couple of steals per game. Has one year of eligibility remaining. Might average 16 points this season.

I would be ecstatic if Carlino scored 16 ppg....provided he doesn't do it on 33% FG shooting

Doesn't 33% 3 pt shooting = 50% 2 pt shooting?  Sounds pretty good to me.

I didn't say 33% 3P%, I said 33% FG%

While Carlino will prolly not be the second coming of Travis Diener's senior year he is a big time addition.  He is a 5th year guys that hopefully provides some leadership and toughness along with our other 2 seniors.  They need to provide the leadershp to the young and inexperienced kids.  How many of our Freshman ans Sophomores have competed for conference titles, played in NCAA games etc.?  Hopefully, regardless of wins those three can show the young guys the ropes of being a successful program.

These kinds of comments give me loads of hope. We're a small, guard oriented team, and we're likely to be stuck playing 3-4 guard offenses. Matched with our coaching staff, I like the vision of Carlino benefiting from Diener's offensive skills, and other guards learning from our other guard-coaches.

Makes me wonder, which coach works most with the big men?

I would be ecstatic if the Elite One averaged half that on 33% 3 point shooting.

Again, I said FG% not 3P%
