So, the ayes have it on the Cool Name Contest.
I thought as a warm-up, we could start with the most interesting names in Marquette Basketball history. I have nominated my personal favorites, but if you think I have left off a voteworthy name, please let me know and I will add the most popular write-ins.
You may vote for up to five names. Have fun!
I'm adding Ulice Payne to my list.
Come on. Vander Blue is the coolest name. Just think of what he'll name his kids?
Midnight
Cordon
Lida
Sky
The options of cool "Blue" names are endless for him.
Ron Rahn was a friend - had to go with him.
I am adding Homer True

Sorry, Homer is not eligible. He is not listed on the Scoop Wiki as having ever been on the roster.
Sorry, it's Ulice. On top of that, he's a pretty neat guy too!
Write-in (add in message below): Chicos
Odell Ball.
Earl Tatum
Frozena?
Dean "The Dream" Meminger.
Oluoma Nnamaka
Rolls off your tongue like a fine wine.
Lawrence Trend Blackledge
Other than Ulice Payne, no other names from the 80s or 90s.
I'll go with Tony Smith :)
Elmer Fockett
Dick Strong didn't make the list, really?
Jack mihogoff
Con Yagodyastremski---don't remember him, so he has to be on the list. I mean, after all with a first name of Con and a Slavic last name, c'mon man! Kielbasa forever!

I had said the same thing to chick as she was pulling the list together. But no doubt that era had plenty of very vanilla names. Al's era as well. As chick said, Butch Lee simply doesn't measure up and she didn't want to 'reach' just to balance the decades.
Bernard "Looney" Toone.

Nothing vanilla about "Brute Force" or "The Elevator Man"
I'm just waiting for the coolest opposing player names list. Three recent ones off the top of my head:
Sir'Dominic Pointer
God's Gift Achiuwa
Onochie Ochie
Dr. Hatchett (Larry Hatchett 70-80's)

I am using actual roster names.
I would welcome a nice separate list of nicknames, as I am not as familiar with those.

How about Myles Davis on Xavier. It doesn't get much cooler than that.
I remember back in 19 aught 24, 25 and 26 root, rooting for the one and only GUIDO GAUCHLER! Damn, he had a nice set shot.
Then for reals...Krunti Hester.

George Thompson and Ric Cobb. Then there was Dean the Dream. Also the Black Swan
Dick Shaw
Don Smolinski, because of SSSSMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOO
Brian Brunkhorst should be on the list.
Do cool nicknames count? If so, I came across one of the greatest from the 1936 yearbook when I was compiling pictures for my MU photo archive: "Peppery Paul Sokody". I mean, c'mon, "Peppery Paul"!?!?! That's just classic. Below is a pic of him from 1936.
If it is a nickname contest it is a no brainer: Pat Smith was "The Evil Dr. Blackheart". No nickname ever close to that cool.

Lackey's "Black Swan" is a very close second....?
Craig "Big Buck, Motherf*ck" Butrym

If we want to go blue, we already have Vander.

He never made it. Deane snuck out to Lamar with him, IIRC.
