Washinton State struggled with Boise Stae last night. Not sure of the final score. But it was a 8-9-10 point game late. The point is UVS and Boise went OT and at least in that game indicating they are on similar levels. Then UVA loses at Mu by 11 and Boise did about the same at #9 Washington state.
I am a little frustrated that MU has not won the games in more convincing fashion but these two games are against 2 of the better low major teams in the country.
Lastly, MU is one year older and more experienced but the issues we had last year that caused us to lose 10 games did not magically disappear. We are still a guarded oriented team with guards that cannot shoot and have the worst front court in the BE. Meaning tons of zone. We will win more than our share but this team did lose 10 games for a reason. I think the predicitoons of only 4-5 losses is not reality as I stated last week.
Adding to that, Arizona struggled mightily in putting away Northern Arizona. NAU is a team that has gotten an ass whooping from the Cats over the years.
Early games seem to be tougher and tougher. Perhaps it's a noxious mixture of hype, expectations, pressure, level playing field, poorer attitudes, etc.
...., ahhh, unfortunately, UW extension in Madison whipped oooiepooie by about 30! We will not fair well against any team w/ strong forwards/center, and passable guards.
I'd also like to point out that there were 32 teams that lost in the first round of the NCAA last year. Not sure how many were scoreless for 10 minutes, but we had plenty of company.

UW actually beat IPFW.
Yes, UW beat IPFW, who we play later on this season, not IUPUI. There is a big difference between the two. IUPUI is a legit contender to get their conference's auto bid and IPFW is considered one of the worst teams in their conference. Nice try though!
ooouueeeeeeepuuuueeeeee
vs
iiiiiiiiiippppppppfffffffffffffuuuuuuooooo
*sigh*
Correct on the comparison...IUPUI is similar to a UIC in that they get alot of talent from Indy. Alot of kids that get underecruited from the city go there and alot of kids that are pretty darn good but dont get offers from Purdue or Iu end up ther. again a comparison to UIC is pretty close. The two guards they had could play for any team in America. will ontend for a conference title and an NCAA bid
IUPUFW is a whole other animal they are terrible. Just got a team, terrible talent, etc. will have an RPI in the 300's, and will get lucky to win 5 games agaist D1 teams
If A>B, and B>C, then A>C
Thats what I got out of the comparison of Boise St., UVS, MU, and WSU.
On a side note, head coach Dane Fife is a god among men in the IU community being an ex-player (I'm pretty sure on the national runner-up team a few years back). Offered the head coaching job very quickly after his departure from IU, and @ 28 is the youngest head coach in NCAA Div. I

They beat Fort Wayne, not IUPUI. IUPUI is picked to win their conference, Fort Wayne on the other hand.....
well everybody, we play IPFW on Dec. 17th, so we'll still get a comparison game regardless...
Not so sure about the god among IU men with Dane Fife. having watched Iu for years and watched the game the other night with friends that do not have Directv I have never personally thought or heard any comment to that sort. Actually, the general consensus on Fife here in Indiana...would be..as a player not too bad of a career a career similar to that of a peiper or maybe a Logterman...may not have scored 1000 but he probably did. However, IIRC he was a McDonald's AA, regardless he never matched the hype he had coming out of HS. Then at age 24?, I beleive 1 or 2 years out of college he took the Head coaching job at IUPUFW, i beleive in the same year they went D1. A head scratcher at best...since then they have won a few games a year. Actaully looked it up they won 12 games last year which was a high as a D! program and still lsot to IUPUI without Hill by 20.
Not sure any of that qualifies for God status among IU people. If the intent was hyperbole you knocked it over the fence.
I'm not hitting the panic button by any means, but lets not try to sugarcoat IUPUI and UVS

ay, the problem with making a joke in an online forum, some downer will undoubtedly comment to boost his esteem. Of course it was an exaggeration, why would anyone truthfully say that about dane fife? HERE IN INDIANA fife isn't a god among men, like say oh Bob Knight, I would know I'm from there, actually. All your condescension aside though I agree w/ur post.

There's absolutely no need to either sugarcoat or panic.

I don't think we need to compare common opponents to figure out who's the better team between Marquette and Wisconsin...I think our game against Wisconsin on December 8th will be a better indicator of which team is better.

I agree with you. The expectations are to high for the team. We will be a solid team, but not a contender. With Trevor out, we now have no Freshmen that can make a decent contribution like Lazar did last year. Guards still displaying suspect shooting and the front line is very thin. Hard work and tough D will have to make up for the lack bona fide scoring threats. I think we end up around where we did last year.
I totally agree...the string has sort of run out of control. originally i stated IUPUi is not too bad of team whereby some one responded ..."well UW beat them by 30"...chaos ensued
