"MU historians" would argue that in 1983 Joe Wolf going to UNC over MU set off a chain reaction that lead to the "lean years" and eventually to Dukiet ("The Piano Man") era.
Will Ellenson do the opposite?

Was thinking that same thing on my drive back for Indy. It will not erase it completely, but sure feels awfully good right now. I do believe this is a major game changer for the program. Judging by the texts and calls I got today from buddies this is big time news.
What about the exorcism of the Ghost of Brian Butch? ::)

No, because the exorcism was previously accomplished in 1990 by Kevin O'Neill when he recruited three top 100 players from Wisconsin, Damon Key, Jim McIlvaine, and Robb Logtermann.

Was Butch as close to coming to Marquette as Wolf was?

I recall the Butch recruitment as a nip and tuck between MU and UW. Crean worked hard on getting Butch.
I think it does, although if UNC was in his final group it would be that much nicer. I don't remember where exactly Wolf was ranked, I think he was a 1st team Street & Smith's pick, but it feels really nice to get a player of Henry's caliber when your competition is top tier programs like Kentucky and Michigan St.

nah - Crean cooled on him
As I have noted before Mr & Mrs Wolf had free seats in the court side press seat anytime they wanted them during Joe's senior year in HS
