It sounds like Deonte lost his mother this morning. I can't even imagine what that feels like. With all the talk of the team as a family, I really hope he has that support around him now.
Sending my best to Deonte and his family.

Awful news for anyone, let alone someone as young as he is, thoughts and prayers for him and his family from a Butler fan.

RIP Mrs Burton.

Awesome picture Skatastrophy. Thanks for posting it here. The heart of a wonderful mother shows through. Even for as outstanding a young man as Deonte is, such a loss can only be devastating. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Burton family.

Mrs. Burton You have raised a great young man, he is respectful and hard working. We are all saddened to see you depart but we know your presence will be felt in a positive way.
-
Sorry for your loss Mr. Burton, prayers up to u and your family. God bless!!
-
Shoot. God's peace and blessings be upon you and your family.

For anyone, the death of a parent stymies you. For anyone under 30, the death of a parent can be traumatic. For anyone in University, the death of a parent can be bewildering. I'm happy that we have a coach and staff in place that will put the human nature of this event in perspective for Deonte.
Illness? Sudden? Did I miss the cause in that screenshot?

One of the reasons he transferred back from Brewster is because she was diagnosed with cancer.

Also a recent tweet of him asleep in her hospital room.

Thoughts and prayers for the family. Wishing them the best in this difficult time.

Respect. stay strong

In reading the message Deonte posted with that picture he shows a maturity that I don't know if I would be able to show in his situation and I am twice his age. You raised a good strong man Mrs Burton. Rest easy.

Very sad. Thoughts and prayers to Deonte and all of his family.

Thoughts and prayers to Deonte. I'm thinking his mom may have had breast cancer since there are several videos of Deonte hooping in pink sneakers. Hopefully Jamil Wilson can contact Deonte and help him through this tough situation. I believe Jamil also lost his mother to breast cancer.
-
Bless you, Bane. May what she taught you help you get through this.
-
Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Be strong.

Prayers to Deonte and family, yet the maturity and perspective he showed in his post is incredible for his age. Seems his Mom did an incredible job raising him. And let's not forget Deonte pledged his commitment to MU immediately after Buzz left - regardless of who was going to be hired. He's a MKE kid that wants to be an example for others growing up in MKE of the possibilities of hard work, dedication, living right, etc.
Think Deonte will go down as an all time favorite of mine at MU

Deonte,
I'm so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing - sending thoughts and prayers to you and your loved ones. Peace and God bless.
-
I could not imagine the idea of losing a close love one especially your mother.
Prayers got out to Deonte and his family.
In this tragedy it should help the team and coaches rally around Deonte and grow stronger as a family and team.

My heart goes out to Deonte and his family. My father died my sophomore year and it shattered my world. School went out the window for a while. I had no interest in anything. Going to class, exams, writing papers - none of it felt important. It was like being only half awake for months. I had no focus, no motivation, no energy. I can't imagine that plus the extra demands of being a high-level D1 athlete. The only thing I did was join a boxing gym and just whale on the heavy bag for an hour a day. I would never dare to say I know what he's going through, but I had a similar experience and it was not a productive time in my life.
I hope Burton doesn't feel any pressure from the school, coaches, or fans to do anything if he's not ready. If he needs to take time off, I would hope and expect the Marquette community to be understanding. Take care of your family, young man. Marquette will be waiting to embrace you with open arms when you're ready.
RIP Mama Burton
