it's on 51st and Lincoln in West Allis. Nothing to fear beyond our south side accent and misuse of words. Be sure to get yourself some ham and rolls!

I spent a lot of time in that part of town after graduation. I preferred that place to Water Street and the east side.

Oh, Sampson.....
I made my first visit to the Milwaukee Zoo a few weeks after I arrived on campus. I had never heard of him until I walked into the Ape house. Sampson was pacing in his glass cage, and then we made eye contact. He picked up a rubber hose and flung it as hard as he could directly at me. Luckily the glass was Sampson-proof, but the loud "boom" scared the p!ss out of me, almost literally.
A few days later, it was big news all over Milwaukee that Sampson had died of a heart attack. I am sure he was brokenhearted after I did not respond favorably to his show of brute strength.
Later that semester, I delivered a eulogy of Sampson in speech class. I played it up to the hilt (dressed in black from head to toe, sobbing into a lace handkerchief), and had the class in hysterics. It's still probably one of the best public speaking engagements I have ever done.
As a side note, you can visit Sampson's taxidermied remains at the Milwaukee Public Museum. So technically, you actually can see him in Milwaukee again.

I remember going with my wife to something called "The Fruit Boat." I think they changed the name to Pride or Rainbow in the '90's.
