Title: It's Official
Post by: keefe on July 02, 2014, 01:25:16 PM
Got word from my alma mater that our new President is now in place.

It looks like his apostolic reflection included eating tons of fried crab cakes with mac n cheese

The irony is that while quoting Pope Francis he clearly ignored that advice while serving at Marquette...

Any truth to the rumor that he's planning to bring in an alum of Gonzaga College High School to be the new AD, so Georgetown can do things the Gonzaga way?

I guess de-motions and "buzz cuts" occur in the Jesuit world as well.

Actually, no. He's trying to poach the SLU High AD so we can begin doing things the SLU Way.

It is an outstanding Prep School. Did you know any Mitchells or Bidwells?

I know Joe Grindon starting QB at SLU High around 1970.

Bill Bidwill's older brother, Stormy, (Charles, Jr.) owned the house at the end of the street I grew up on.  I went to grade school with his daughter, Shauna.

Did Stormy go to Georgetown Prep, too?

Jesuit HS grad here as well (Bellarmine College Prep, San Jose).

To go from University Pres on the rise to a College Prep Pres, 'tis baffling.

Me thinks he misses the cultural "crossroads" that is the DC/NoVa area and was utterly lost while at MU.
Me thinks he bit off more than he could (es?)chew.

No, a buddy of mine from my F 16 days went to SLU High then SLU. I stood up for his wedding in St Louis and another groomsman was Bill Bidwell's son. Great guys both.

It's not like Georgetown Prep isn't a prestigious post but it is a far cry from leading one of America's better private universities. What I find interesting is that if Pilarz found the MU alumni a difficult constituency he is in for a real shock with the Prep crowd. Very, very involved and with strong opinions on every aspect of that campus. And if he didn't fancy fund raising at MU he might be in for a surprise when he finds out that his number one priority at Prep is to shake down alums for donations.
