http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/06/20/report-malik-newmandiamond-stone-package-deal-isnt-a-guarantee/
Despite previous reports saying that Diamond Stone and Malik Newman would be a package deal, Diamond's father said otherwise.
Not sure we are even still in the running, but who knew that an 18 year-old would change his mind throughout his college-selection process?
I hope he finds the right fit (regardless of whether it is Marquette or not).
-
Diamond's dad is very, very old-school. While Diamond may be easily impressed or impressionable, his dad is not.
This news doesn't surprise me at all.
-
Stone's dad is in his early 60s. Different generation.
-
This is just speculation on my part, but as soon as Buzz left I think MU lost any chance of landing Stone.

I don't think we land him either way, but I actually got the opposite impression.

Yeah, it's been stated on here numerous times that Stone's dad saw through Buzz's BS and our chances actually improved when he left.
-
I think Ellenson is more realistic than Stone.

Is that actually true or just message board rumors?

I think Ellenson is more realistic than Stone.
As do I.

Maybe our resident "insider" TAMU could fill us in on the details of this ;D

We ain't getting either.

We ain't getting either.
A lament often heard within Cobeen

We ain't getting either.
Wojo seems to be extending more offers, which leads me to believe that he is not waiting for either one.
-
I would be surprised if we got either, but I still think there's a chance.
MY PREDICTIONS
Chance of getting stone: 10%
Chance of getting Ellenson: 20%
Chance of getting both: 1%
Hoping for the best though

This is not appropriate logic.
Still a chance. The Warriors motto.

If you'd like.
We were top two with Stone for awhile. UNC was our main competition. UCLA and Bucky were in the mix as well. Buzz leaving did not help but Buzz leaving AND Wojo coming in did help. Wojo had been recruiting Stone for Duke and had good rapport.
That was a couple of weeks ago. Since the report came out that Newman and Stone were going to be a package deal (which I said wouldn't stick) a bunch of schools who were in on Newman also started going after Stone including both Kansas and Kentucky. Kentucky had previously been focusing more on other big men (Zimmerman, Rabb, Diallo, Labissiere), Kansas didn't get involved previously because the perception was that Stone was either going local (Marquette) or to UNC if he wanted a blue blood. Duke also reentered after dropping out.
Now that the package deal has been busted up, I don't know if these new contenders will drop again or not. But I think our chances of landing Stone are lower than they were a few weeks ago. When Kentucky wants somebody, they get them.
Ellenson, I know very little about. I think Marquette feels like they have a better shot with Ellenson than Stone.

Last weekend when I checked out 247 sports, I believe they had 18 panelists weigh in on Stone's likely choice, and it was almost unanimously Kentucky. For it to be that overwhelming favoring one school, I find it hard to believe that those guys are going to put their credibility on the line and turn out to be dead wrong. Kentucky sure seems the favorite now.
That being said, I wouldn't give up on MU's chances either. It's a long way to November still. MU I would think still has a lot of appeal- immediate impact on a team that's guard heavy for the next couple of years at least, a close friend and former high school teammate (who already seems to bleed blue and gold), Wojo and his Duke pedigree, play right in his hometown with mom and dad always having the chance to see him.
It's not over yet.
-
When Buzz was here, Marquette was dead in the water for Ellenson. To even be mentioned as being in the conversation for him is totally a Wojo thing, and the thing that I've found most impressive about Wojo's recruiting chops, to date.

<chuckle>. You're not understanding what 247 is.

OK, fill me in then. Mark Miller is one of the guys who weighed in. I'm sure the guys on there are of varying degrees of credibility, but you're saying they're all a bunch of quacks?

I figured Stone would go to Kentucky, but they already have 4 centers on the roster. Assuming 2 go pro that still is a lot of competition for playing time. Saying that he is no longer going as a package deal might indicate that Newman is going to Kentucky and Stone is not. Assuming he wants to be a one and done he needs to go where he will start. I think he goes out of state, but no longer to Kentucky.

Who knows. Its just Stone's dad making a wise statement during the interim.

4 never suffers from gynecomastia. Of course, that helps his porn career out, so don't feel too sorry for him.
-
Wow. I had to look that up.
Gynecomastia [ɡaɪnɨkɵˈmæstiə] is a common condition characterized by the benign enlargement of breast tissue in males
