Poll
Question: Between Buzz and Wojo who do you think will reach the Sweet Sixteen first?
Option 1: Buzz
Option 2: Wojo
Title: Poll: Reaching Sweet Sixteen
Post by: Wojo'sMojo on June 19, 2014, 09:46:53 PM
I hope Brent never reaches a sweet sixteen again, just curious as to what others thought. I voted for Wojo, don't think we make it this year but we will the following season for sure. I think it will take Brent at least 3 years to upgrade that program to tourney caliber.

Sure, if Duke, UNC, Pitt, SU, UND, UL, UVA, FSU, NCSU, and The U all tank. Bert bought a foot long sh1t sammy with extra corn. It'll take him a lot longer to wolf that thang down. Bon appetit, Bert!

I made my vote not on who is the better coach (that remains to be seen), but rather on the strength of program.

I voted for Wojo purely because Marquette is the better basketball program, historically.  Marquette has been to the Sweet 16 SIXTEEN times with 8 coaches.  Virginia Tech has made the Sweet 16 once, nearly 50 years ago...

Easy decision for me.

My thinking exactly. Buzz is a good recruiter but it will take a while to even make the tourney much less win two straight games given VT's less than mediocre pedigree.

This.  I feel pretty good about what I've seen from Wojo thus far, and so it's not entirely just that MU has a better program, but... I think we are back in the S16 before VPI appears in the tourney.

Expect Bert will be gone before he sees sweet sixteen in the ACC. Actually I wish him well but I just don't see it happening with VT against the likes of Duke, Va. NC etc.

Wojo. He has more to work with than Buzz does. I think Buzz is capable of bring VT to a Sweet 16, but it will take at least 3 years.

Again, I can see why Chicos calls this place and Indiana Fan Board. People can't let things go.

I will check with you next time to see if it meets your criteria to post. I wouldn't want to be accused of not letting something go again  ::) oh btw, Paint Touches now has an article out about Brent...guess they just can't let it go either.

Keefe: Why all the animosity and hate for the lovable con man, the Buzzster? Don't you know that in today's PC world, you can be ruined/prosecuted for such hatred? You need to understand the love, compassion, and sentiment of the man's soul. We all need to think the same thoughts, have the same beliefs, idolize the same people and causes, because after all--it is all about the children---and the $3 million estate.

Once again, the Eagle gets in his love for the Buzzster.

I voted Buzz simply because he has done it three times. I think Wojo will be good, but he has no track record. Besides that I think Buzz realized you can be so so in a great conference and get an NCAA bid, while you need to finish in top 4 or higher to get an NCAA bid out of Big East. It may actually be easier to finish in top 8 of ACC than top 4 of Big East.

ACC only got 6 bids this past year.

I never told you what to post and what not to post. That's your domain remember?  ;)

I'm just making an observation. I never understood Chico's comments about us being an Indiana fan board. I now understand.

You do understand how big of an ego Buzz has correct? He would love that fans are still dwelling on him.

I simply no longer care about Buzz. He is not my team's coach anymore. No need to pay him another thought. You want to get back at him for leaving? That would be the best way to do it.

They are adding Louisville this year, which is going to raise the confernce profile.

Agree, just saying they have never had 8 bids in their history

i think that either Kevin O'Neill or Mike Deane (or both) will coach a S16 team before Brent does.
Also I think Travis Deiner will coach a S16 team before Brent does.
Also Mike Hunt.
Possibly Count Chocula.

Common sense would dictate that Wojo gets there first. Big East isn't as strong or deep as the ACC, Marquette is far more of a national name, etc.

But sources say the NCAA tournament is such a crapshoot that anything can happen!

First you have to get a tournament bid and then you have to win two games. A sweet sixteen at Duke would be a disappointing year, so Wojo comes from a program that knew how to get there. Buzz made three straight sweet 16's so he knows how to get there. I think Wojo gets an NCAA tournament bid first, but Buzz gets to sweet 16 first.

I voted Buzz.  He's done it 3 times and Wojo hasn't coached a game yet.
