Title: 30 for 30: The Floor that Made Milwaukee Famous
Post by: MUfan12 on June 11, 2014, 11:51:42 AM
A fun short about the history and preservation of the old MECCA floor. Doc and Robert Byrd talk about MU in it.

They usually air the shorts a few at a time, and don't really advertise it. The video is here if you haven't seen it- http://grantland.com/features/30-for-30-shorts-untucked/

So, is this when the "Milwaukee Arena" became the MECCA?  I grew up attending games at the Arena beginning in 1970 or 71. The MECCA was the name of the complex that had convention halls and INCLUDED the Arena and what we called the Auditorium as well.  My dad was an MU dental grad and I remember as a kid helping set up tables and booths in the auditorium for the annual dental conventions.  As I watched this video I stopped it when the newspaper clippings came up and confirmed that it was still referred to as the "Arena."  And even after the floor was installed, I have concert ticket stubs that say Milwaukee Arena.  So, does anyone have any insight into whether the Bucks and Warriors' home actually officially changed to the MECCA, or did it?

Concert was in the Arena, right? MECCA = The Milwaukee Exposition Convention Center and Arena. Concert at the MECCA's Arena... = Milwaukee Arena.

Two best shows at the Arena: Ike and Tina Revue with Ike's Kings of Rhythm Band in 1963, or any James Brown appearance in the 60's.

Here I thought this was going to be about one of the floors in the haunted Pfister.
