Beer Summit is showing why play-in games matter.  Almost left out of the tournament all together, Beer is making a run for the ages.  Tested at every turn the summit seems to come together, settle its differences, and pull out a victory.  They will be facing the highest seeded meme left in the tournament in Haikus.

Beer Summit
This was an outgrowth of the Chicos/Hoopaloop controversy with a dash of current events thrown in.  In politics, there was some dust up between a cop and a university professor that nobody remembers but POTUS decided to host a "beer" summit between the two parties....they even announced what beer each was going to have...yeah it's as stupid as it sounds, but that's not the point.  Shortly after was the whole Chicos/Hoopaloop blow up and someone suggested a beer summit in California to resolve the drama.  It was funny at the time, and occasionally makes it way into other threads where there might be some conflict.

Haikus
A prolific poster(currently know as Keefe) was known to respond to posts in Haikus attempting to be both cryptic and clever.  Resulted in annoying half the board and mesmerizing the other half of the board.  The haikus became a running meme, and were found to be called upon in especially tough times.  A later variant had "secret" messages buried in them.

anaheim cold ones
draft beers that were never poured
wry observation

a pale ale inhaled
Mickey tickets accepted
conspiracy joined

dubious request
ban hammer circumvented
the magic kingdom

Beer summit needed
To witness its own demise
Oh, the irony

If all previous haikus were as good as the ones in this thread I would maybe at least understand an argument for them.  As it is, I just don't see how it can get any better than the beer summit.  I laugh my ass off every time I think about the ridiculousness of everything that is involved with it.

the beer summit is funnier than any of the funniest sitcoms of the last 30 years. Can you imagine Kramer as the one who arranged the brief California toast and chug-a-lug between the same person

Big Keefe fan here but the Beer Summit was one of my favorite Scoop moments. Hate to see one of these go down.

Beer Summit was mine as well Goose. Chico invented it but I christened it. But regardless, the entire Hoopaloop-Beer Summit anthology is classic Scoop lore. The richness, texture, and vitality of our collective experience here is compelling history. At a minimum, the Smithsonian needs to begin archiving and chronicling our intellectual output.
