This question is for the people that have seen both players, first off, how do they compare as players? Figuring Duane Wilson and Dawson will play the point when NN is in school, that means
the best chance for Nick to get playing time is the 2, so in saying that, who would be the better player? It seems Pritzl will have a better chance to get time early with Gasser and Jackson leaving, Nick will have to beat out JJJ. Right now both MU and Wisco need to recruit another guard, do these kids have big upside? What do you think? I have not seen either play.
I never watched them play, but I get the impression from others that NN is the better all around player but BP might be the better shooter. I think JJJ is going to be more of a small forward when all is said and done, and not sure who will actually be the PG. Perhaps JD at point, DW as a SG backed up by NN.
Duane Wilson is just as likely to be the shooting guard. He is a combo and not a true point guard.

It will interesting next year to see how he uses Duane then. With Carlino, Derrick and Dawson, there is more room at the 2. I think Mayo and JJJ are better suited for the 3. In 2 years,
Dawson might be the starter with Duane playing the 2. JJJ the three with Cohen, Fisher and Taylor at the power forwards with right now no back-ups. Needs 2 more recruits, selling playing
time upfront should be no problem. We will see how the guard oriented coaches can bring in a big.
I've seen both play. Pritzl is a more solid body type, who can definitely shoot. I would liken him to a little bigger Jake Thomas. Can kill you in transition when you lose track of him, but when he is tightly guarded, you barely know he's on the floor. Personally, I would have been bummed if we would have signed him because I don't see him being able to get his shot off as easy as he does now. Part me also wonders how Jake Thomas would have developed had he been a Badger. I didn't think that much of Gasser coming out of high school, and he has certainly developed into a solid player for them. Noskowiak fits us perfectly. He is much quicker and really pushes it in transition. He has a great shot and handle as well. NN's quickness is the difference, especially on D versus Pritzl at this point. Noskowiak has been been on the national radar since he was a freshman, versus Prtizl really just blew up with some recent AAU tourneys. I saw Matt Heldt last weekend and he looked real good, wasn't that impressed with Cody Schwartz or Flory.

That is really good insight. These guys are just names to almost everyone on Scoop so your comments really add texture. Keep posting, brother.

Gasser was solid as a frosh and started (or, played major minutes) right away. I see him as virtually the same player throughout his college career. He was simply under-rated coming out of HS.
Nick is here in the Twin Cities. Hurt his ankle so his play today appears to be a #Done Deal. Icing it (left ankle); don't think it's too bad though.

I saw him play in HS, AAU and think many underrated him - services, scouts, etc. -- including me. If memory serves correctly, if Vander Blue doesn't decommit, Gasser is somewhere like Northern Iowa. He wasn't really highly recruited. I guess that is my point on Pritzl - I don't really see it, but I thought the same thing about Gasser as did many others.

I think Northwestern offered him. My recollection is that Bo offered him a walk on for a year and then four years of scholarship after that, and the Blue decommit gave him the full scholarship.
But the Diamond Taylor incident played a role there too.

Greg Oden was the 1st pick in the NBA draft, Kevin Durant the 2nd. End of story.
Sam Bowie was taken with the 2nd pick in the NBA Draft, Michael Jordan the 3rd. End of story.
Darco Milicic was taken with the 2nd pick in the NBA Draft, Dwyane Wade with the 5th. End of story.
Eric Williams, Jamail Jones, Juan Anderson were all top 100 recruits, Davante Gardner wasn't top 200. End of story.

How is Ellenson looking this weekend?
Throughout the EYBL his shots haven't going down as often as they can. Today he had a nice effort though (with Nick out). 8/20 FG but 5/9 3FG so a 52.5% eFG%. 23 points, 11 boards (3 off), 4 steals and only 1 turnover. PGE won't be going to the Peach Jam unfortunately...
As most kids would, Nick reminds Ellenson how nice it would be to play together at MU... obviously Henry has a lot of options at this point in time. Duane Wilson Sr is the head coach and John Ellenson is one of the assistants on the bench.
As for NN and Pritzl.. I think Nick does more for your team - both offensively and defensively. Pritzl's range is ridiculous and if you were going to place them at MU and Wisconsin, respectively, they are each with the right team. Pritzl also surprises with some ups - he'll actually get up and throw it down. Pretty solid kid and I like the addition for Becky.... although his defense will be something to watch early on.
That said, Nick probably has him on bball IQ, passing, defense, leadership, etc.

To be fair, Oden & Bowie were injured.
But it was inexcusable for a team to take Oden before Durant. I know teams are always looking for bigs and some were worried whether Durant was strong enough, but, come on.
As far as Bowie was concerned, I have no doubt whatsoever that he would have been a HOFer in not for the injuries. Incredibly skilled big man.

If he had only signed with Marquette then he would have studied at the belly of the Big Man's Buddha - Rick Majerus. Karma, neh?

It was completely inexcusable to take Bowie (who had been injured at UK) ahead of Jordan. Hakeem was completely understandable, but I think everyone pretty much knew that the Blazers screwed up right after the pick was made.
The stated reason that the Blazers passed on Jordan at the time was...."We already had Clyde Drexler"

Duane might end up playing as much 2 as PG, and maybe Dawson is just a "rotation player" who fills in for a few minutes here or there. I don't know how anybody can look at what Dawson did last year and project him as a big-minute PG. He wasn't a highly rated recruit, either -- certainly not as highly ranked as Noskowiak is. I'm not saying Dawson can't be good enough one day; I simply don't know how one could project him as more than a role player given what we know about him.
Nick is busy trying to recruit other good players to join him.......This guy is likely one of Wojo's top wing targets

Vander's shot at the NBA > Gasser's
Gasser's stock would be hottest a few years after graduation, but he'll probably end up playing overseas...and then the window closes for him.

That's why the smart GMs don't draft for need. They take the best player.
But the real reason they passed on Jordan is because big men are overvalued. Just look at the draft every year and see the stiffs that go in the 1st round only because they are tall.

How ironic. The cover story of today's Seattle Times is on just one such stiff. Seattle is also noted for one of the worst free agent signings ever, too.

I'm actually saddened by stories like this. And I couldn't stop myself from thinking of that espn article about Vander and his nomadic life this past year, not suggesting that Blue is anything but a hard worker, etc. Funny. What makes me most proud of this year's team are the diplomas that were earned last weekend. I'll bet some moms feel the same way.

It isn't the end of the discussion.
Nick will not be a top 50 player or maybe not even get listed in most top 100 lists by the end of the summer. He can help the program and I expect he'll be more of a third guard at Marquette helping in a combo role
He and Pritzl are different players who chose different programs. Nick never had an offer from UW.
A school is not going to offer a player that has no interest. This debate is useless, because it does not matter who is better right now. This is basically the same debate we had about Wilson and Koenig.

Like every truism, there are exceptions to prove this one true. Like the Bulls passing on Gorgui Dieng for Tony Snell last year in the draft.

One of my favorite Bobby Knight stories. When he was asked about the Blazers passing on Jordan because they needed a center and already had Drexler. He said his solution is simple, draft Jordan and play him at center.

Clyde teamed up with Hakeem for a championship, it's not exactly inconceivable had Bowie stayed healthy & lived up to the #2 pick that they could have teamed together for a championship or two (or more). May have even tipped the scales in the Blazers' favor against Jordan's Bulls in '92...

Or they could have simply drafted the better player in Jordan, figured out how to play him with Drexler, and won multiple championships.
Instead they drafted an often injured center, who would up getting injured.
And Kevin Duckworth wasn't bad...although by '92 was starting to slide.
