He would be the first to "bail" as you say. I am aware of no other such defection.

+1
Another blow to the Big East as the Power Conferences gobble up another Big East coach. What does this say about the big east? OR ... is Cal that much of an upgrade over Xavier?
I don't get it considering Mack went to Xavier. Seems like there is no loyalty to his Alma mater
Respect the process.

There's a shortage of Critical Thinking these days. We need all viewpoints to generate the best discussion, possible. If we tell people to leave, this place will become a desert wasteland. There is the "ignore" button if you really are that offended by ath13kesit 's posts.

That or Xavier doesn't want to pay his demands.
No conference gets away with being mediocre more than the Pac-12. I mean, thank god Arizona is finally good again because there is no other elite or even very good team in that conference (No, Oregon doesn't count). Same thing when it was just UCLA.

Crean "bailed" on MU and we were part of the what was a pretty powerful Big East conference. The jobs are what they are. If he leaves another good coach will take over the Xavier job.

Agreed, but IU is a blueblood, Cal is a public ivy with zero bball history. I have to say that I will be very disappointed if Mack leaves for the Cal job
Berkley seems like a nice place to live except for the insufferable politics.

Berkeley isn't that nice. Palo Alto is nice
I'd accept a position at Pepperdine in a second.
Mack staying at Xavier, per Goodman
When Monty was at Cal he was one of the top three highest paid PUBLIC employees in the state (Howland and the Cal FB coach Tedford - when he was there - was the other).
The money is there but the work that's needed to raise that program to UCLA and ARIZONA standards is a tough act.
