Title: When is the last time there were so many unknowns?
Post by: tower912 on April 10, 2014, 12:41:02 PM
New coach.   Only one returning starter and he wasn't that good.    Two leading returning scorers were wildly inconsistent.  Recruit class in limbo.  (Except Sandy!   Hi, Sandy)  No size to speak of until mid-December.   I can't remember the last time there were so few 'knowns' going into the season.    It will be a good time to practice deep, cleansing breaths.   IF Todd returns and progresses.   IF Deonte builds on the spark he showed down the stretch.   IF  Duane/JJJ/Dawson/STjr/Juan step up.   IF CoWojo is a good coach and get the team to gel.        Yeah.    Deep cleansing breaths.

The closest has got to be 09-10.  So many players to transfer, Buzz hadn't really been tested yet because the year before he had an extremely good core back, and there was no size to speak of after like 6 games in.  But even that year doesn't compare.

Me - "oh my this is going to be a serious rebuilding year, my god Hayward in going to have to be godly"

4 months later - Holy unnatural carnal knowledge Mu is actually going to pull this off?

In fairness to Mayo, part of his inconsistency has to be attributed to Brazz's poor usage/gameplanning of Mayo.

I like to think of the time when a Coach from KU went to Wojo's arch rival and took them from the bottom to the top with mostly the same players and recruits.

Well, a year ago, we had daily reports about IF Buzz leaves ... IF we lose our high-rated recruiting class because Buzz leaves ... IF several players transfer because Buzz leaves.

As Roseanne Roseannadanna used to say: "It's always something!"

This right here ^^^^

And this can go for a bunch of guys.  Its very difficult to get on track with 2 minute inconsistent stints on the floor.  You just get a sweat going and you get yanked.  It will be interesting to see how many players are in the rotation once conference play begins and who those players are.  Players make mistakes, you cant always take them out for mistakes.  If they consistently make the same mistake, well ok.  But to just yank a freshmen out because he made a mistake is very difficult on the players.  It makes them play with zero confidence and are always looking over their shoulder.  Not a good way to succeed.

From the defense I saw.  If they were going to take players out for mistakes, they wouldnt have had any players left to play by the second half.
