A few words with Chris Otule
MU's newest big man, Chris Otule, also appears to be the quietest of the four members of the Golden Eagles' 2008-'09 recruiting class.
At least, that was my initial reaction after speaking with him earlier this week.
Here's what he had to say after making his commitment to MU:
How did your enjoy your visit to MU? It wasn't what I expected. It pretty much caught me by surprise. I liked the atmosphere. I didn't think it was going to be boring, but they've got a lot of exciting things. It was fun.
Did you say boring? Not boring, but it was way more than I thought it would be.
What did you like specifically? I like the team a lot; they're some fun guys to be around. I like the coaches. We saw the Brewers' stadium, we saw Lake Michigan, the mall. I had a lot of fun.
As a Texas native, will you be able to deal with the snow and cold? It's snowed once or twice down in Houston. I heard it snows a lot here. But I like the cold.
You committed to MU midway through your visit last weekend. Why so quickly? I just had a gut feeling that this place was where I wanted to be, and now I can just focus on my senior season and doing a good job.
What are your strengths as a player? I would say my strengths are defense. I'm a good player defensively. I'm working on my offensive game, but I play hard inside. I'm working.
Do you see an opportunity to come in and play big minutes right off the bat next season? I'm not asking to play a whole bunch of minutes, but I know I can come in here and play some significant minutes.
You've been described by some as a true, back-to-the-basket center. Would you say that's accurate? It's fun to be just getting down there and playing rough and stuff. My shot's developing, but I like playing underneath most important.
There seems to be some belief out there that you grew a ton over a short period of time - like seven inches. What's the truth? I've heard seven inches, but it was more like four or five.
You've also been referred to as a late bloomer. Is that accurate? I think I can get a lot better. I need to work on my conditioning.
What's your height and weight? 6-10, 245.
Do you want to get bigger and/or stronger? I would like to get taller and gain some weight.
Do you think you're done growing? I've been told I should grow one or two more inches.
So MU could have a 7-footer in another year or two? Yeah, that'd be nice.

Fear not Chris - the MU nation is behind you 110% in your goal of getting taller and stronger ;D
