Way to go, Coach Wojo!
Very glad to have you Sandy!
Nice.
Coach Wojo is having a good day.
Gotta imagine this helps, in the slightest, with some of the others too.
I was really expecting a lot of departures no matter which coach we picked (both current team and incoming).
I think this says a lot of Wojo as well as the Marquette program. Maybe the Brett's and Crean's of the world underestimate Marquette's selling points and think it is more them that it is? ;)
That said, I am sure there will be a few departures which will be okay given how much we have retained thus far.

I think if Satchel wants to be at MU; coach Wojo will welcome him. Especially after the remarks he made about his new assistant coach:
"Chris has a great understanding of the game of basketball and his personality will allow him to develop great relationships with our players," Wojciechowski added. "We are going to focus on player skill development at Marquette and Chris' coaching and playing experience make him a valuable addition to the staff and a vital piece to our on-court instruction."
He just might be our next Gardner.
Congrats MU. Now lock up Hill next.
Great news! Welcome back Sandy!

Love that Wojo is stressing this. The previous regime was often pathetic in this area.
Could be a Michael Carter-Williams type guy on defense - incredibly long arms. Should be lots of deflected passes.

Critical to keep Wisconsin's best HS players at MU- Cohen was at least as important, if not more so, than Ahmed Hill.

We're not likely to ever see another Gardner for another generation, at least. A very unique player with an uncanny knack for scoring inside, and for generating fouls from the defense. A very good offensive rebounder. A big man who was far and away the team's best free throw shooter. A very dangerous weapon to any team that could get the ball inside.
Meh as a defensive rebounder. Not an athlete. Apart from being able to plant himself inside and not be moved, not much to write home about on defense.
The former skills made him easily the best offensive big man at Marquette since at least Damon Key. The latter stuff is why he flew under the radar as a recruit and the reason he stayed in college for four years.
This is very nice. Still praying we keep Hill as well.

True, but think he has to get at least partial credit. Cohen was ready to leave and told MU such, so Wojo had to resell him that MU is where he should be.
So three for three so far for Coach Wojo- Taylor Jr, JJJ, and Cohen. Not bad...

Good news on so many levels. A versatile wing with decent size is always welcome. (btw, versatile wing is the same as switchable, but as that word causes unhealthy facial tics in some, I will go with a more traditional phrase) Coach Wojo being able to reassure and re-land a recruit is a good sign. IMO, young Mr. Cohen was the easiest of Buzz's recruits to bring back into the fold, but it is good to know that the first step of the journey has been completed.

All the current players returning? Check.
Keep Cohen in the fold? Check.
Keep Ahmed in the fold? TBD.
One step away from what I personally wanted to see out of Wojo (or any new hire) in the first 30 days. And from recent reports, we are closer to keeping Ahmed on board than losing him. Couldn't be happier with the way things have gone since Wojo took the podium (including UW's winless streak!).
Keeping Hill will be tough, but I think Wojo is up for the challenge. We should know soon.

Yeah I agree. I don't expect it, but it's closer to happening than I thought it would be. If it does happen, Wojo will have an amazing base to build off of which should give him nearly instant credibility and keep continuity with the MU brand intact.

QuoteMurphy talked to Wojciechowski on Wednesday and told him Cohen would be in Milwaukee for an AAU tournament this past weekend. He suggested they could meet then.
"He said, 'That's too late. I'm going to drive up there tomorrow, if that's OK,' " Murphy said. "He just really made it known that Sandy was a huge priority for him.

2.5 years. He will be sophomore next year, but will not be able to play until 2nd semester. He'll have two full seasons of eligibility remaining AFTER next year.

12/14. NCAA does not require grades to be posted... on the off chance that Luke doesn't make grades in the first semester, he would be eligible on the 14th and subsequently declared academically ineligible on the 16th.

It may be that's why Wojo focused on him first--as a Wisconsinite who has grown up hearing about MU, he's the one with the closest ties to the program (his "dream program"). Get the easiest one in the bag, which may help pull back in the other recruits. Let's hope Hill, et al., is keeping up with what's going on with Cohen (and hope that Cohen is trying to sell Hill and the others on sticking with MU/Wojo).

Two and a half years can't be right, Fischer should have 3 1/2 years of eligibility left, should he not? He's not finishing up his sophomore year of eligibility already next season after playing only one semester at IU.
He finishes out his freshman eligibility next year, 2014-15, and then 2015-16, sophomore eligibility, etc.

Yes and no...I think they have a choice. I believe if he (and Marquette) were willing to sit out all of 2014-2015, he would still have 3 years left. The problem is that you can only play in 4 academic years (unless you are Otule...).

You need a better understanding of the NCAA....it is an association. The rules are made up and VOTED ON by the member institutions, including Marquette. MU, UW, ND, UWM, etc, etc...all vote on these rules. The NCAA enforces them.

I fully understand the NCAA structure. But how much influence do we and many of its members actually have? Does anyone from MU current or in recent history sit on any of their committees, subcommittees, etc. that propose legislation, rule changes, and the like? If there has been, I sure don't recall it. I stand by my earlier statement.
