Title: Manhattan keeps Masiello
Post by: Tums Festival on April 07, 2014, 04:07:15 PM
He's technically on administrative leave until he completes his degree at Kentucky.

I would like to know what classes he has to take.  Are they electives or courses relevant to an actual major?

I'm sure the "tutor" he used while he was there isn't available and graduated 15 years ago.  This might mean that Masiello will have to spend some time in the library.  I wonder if he knows where it is?

So Kentucky will graduate someone this year.  Good on you Coach Cal!

Does that count under Calipari or Patino?  Patino deserves the bump in graduation rates in my book.

Does he get to stay in the basketball dorm?

A good move for Manhattan.  This is a guy who was successful and ready to cash in at the next level, like all Manhattan coaches do.  You would think after he gets his degree, he's going to owe Manhattan for sticking with him after he accepted another job and only lost it because he lied about his graduation status (apparently also to Manhattan).  So now the have a successful, motivated coach who is likely to stay for 3+ years.  That is the best the Manhattans of the world can hope for.

Interesting that he's going back to UK instead of transferring the credits and finishing his degree at Manhattan.

Maybe he doesn't meet their admission standards? :)

Coaching Badminton isn't a major @ Manhattan.  Although, the minor in communications transfers.

I'm sure Masiello will repay Manhattan's loyalty and stay there, maybe for as long as a year or two. Loved soxfan's comment (even though I fear it's the wrong Sox) in another thread that college coaches are basically a pile of slime.

I agree with the idea that he should transfer his Kentucky credits and finish at Manhattan.   Makes more sense.

I think he will be at manhattan longer because of his destroyed reputation than loyalty. He's going have to win multiple NCAA tourney games over the next few years to overcome this mistake.

Agree.  MU and now other teams seem to be passing on Howland over a couple of bad decisions he made at UCLA...and he has a FAR more proven track record than Masiello.  I think Masiello will have to do something pretty special at Manhattan to get any serious interest from high-majors....

If he gets his degree from Kentucky can Calipari use that to boost his graduation rate?
