Agreed, a decision has to come one way or the other.
If Cohen wants out, he will tweet he's out ASAP so the bidding for his services can commence. So, why is he not telling the world he's a fee agent?
Might not be bad news that nothing has been heard.

I disagree with that. Transferring schools is a tough thing. Ive considered leaving MU multiple times and I kept quiet until I knew forsure one way or the other. Nothing you can really assume from radio silence.

They were meeting at 8:00PM. They may still be talking, and it may take him some time to decide. I think he was sold on Marquette for quite some time, but this past week threw everyone for a loop. Give him the time, and respect his decision.
Obviously, we would love to see him in a Marquette uniform next season. Only time will tell.

I appreciate the update. I didn't realize the meeting was @ 8pm. Personally, I was under the impression that they would have done the whole, sit down and eat dinner deal, earlier. At this point, I wouldn't expect to hear anything until tomorrow then.

I posted in the Ahmed Hill thread that if he leaves, fine, he may be a very good player, but to me it was like Tyshawn Taylor never playing at MU after Crean left.
Sandy's situation is different and more important to keep him- always want to keep the best of the WI kids, as many as possible anyway, at MU. Certainly make sure our commits don't go to the dark side in Madison.

I watched him the state games this year. He would fit perfect in Wojo's system. Quick, accurate shot and has decent athleticism. He'll need to bulk up, but he can already shoot better than anyone we have on the team.

In my opinion Hill and Cohen aren't even in the same stratosphere. I would take Hill every single time. I would rather lose Cohen, Shayok, Pierce and keep Hill. I know that's an odd comparison, but that's how highly I regard Hill. Cohen plays for Seymour and plays a very low level of competition. He could in theory keep ascending into a very good player, but I think Hill is by far more polished and likely to be a much better player. Hoping we can keep both!

How often were you able to watch Ahmed Hill play? Strengths? Weaknesses? Play well with teammates? Looks to share the load or take it all on his own? Interaction with coach was positive? Any talented teammates?

I have seen him play a handful of times, as I have seen Cohen as well. Ahmed Hill has a very good feel for the game, as does Cohen. The game seems to come more naturally to Hill in my opinion. He is a elite scorer and also sees the floor very well. I think besides shooting guard, he could also run the point if needed. He has the ability to take over games and be a true "game changer." He also seems fairly engaged playing D...at least for the high school level. I know you are being sarcastic, that's why I said my opinions. I also think Cohen is a good player, but see him more in the complimentary role. His level of weak competition makes him stand out more than he would if he played in a bigger basketball hotbed. We were fortunate to get commits from both guys, but to me Hill is far more valuable to keep on board going forward.
So right now it looks like we may keep Cohen, but lose Hill. It also appears that Shayok is lost, and assuming Pierce is also lost, does that leave us with two schollies left for next year? hard to keep up with these things?

Don't forget Fischer plus I think the poster was assuming Cohen is still matriculating... which leaves 2 open.

For everybody who is in love with Cohen remember this is a mix tape. And as a reminder here is a mix tape of another current MU player who a majority of you want run out of town. Cohen will be a nice piece to have but in no way is he a difference maker. His current comparable on the MU team is Juan. He is really athletic and tries to finish everything with a dunk, including in traffic. Has very long arm and good size which means he has the capability to be a great defender in college. He is a little slow on the dribble to be able to create his own shot at the high D1 level and his release is a bit slow. Comparing the two high school mix tapes I would say Juan is actually the better player among the two. Of course he is an instate recruit that probably adds some more importance to keep the best talent in WI coming to MU. I guess my point is, I have to agree that Hill is by far the only recruit from this class that I would be disappointed in him not coming.

I didn't, I have him down as Luke. So I come up with 4 open, 3 if Cohen still comes. I think this is correct?
Luke is Fischer
Thanks. And the kid from Illinois (Harris, I believe) never signed.
Yeah, it would be great to keep all the signed recruits, which is looking unlikely. Pierce was not highly rated, maybe 2.5 stars, but for depth purposes and that he is 7' would be nice to have.
IMO, since Harris did not play this year, and never signed, we should pass on him. It would seem to me that it would be both in MU's and the others kids interest to determine whether they are coming to MU or are going to take their talents elsewhere. Give them several days to make up their mind and then release the ones who have not re-committed.

pretty sure Harris already said he was going to VT
I think Wojo should just try to keep Cohen and Hill. Let the others go and save the schollies for more of the players he wants in his program. If we were able to keep these 2 and with next years seniors graduating, we would have 5 open scholarships for 2015. He would be able to really go after kids he wants and start to put his imprint on the team rather quickly. The more I think about it, the more I like this idea. There aren't very many unsigned kids left in 2014 that I think are worth going after...maybe a Josh Cunningham from Chicago, he's 6'7"" and is still unsigned as a 4 star.

The problem is that he is already behind the 8-ball with this class as well. This is part of the reason Buzz relied so heavily on JUCOs his first few years. It takes a couple years to cultivate the necessary relationships to get a solid class.
I hope that at least one of his assistants is a former head coach that might already have some irons in the fire.

It would be helpful if he did go there. He was a verbal and we are in an awkward situation. If he truly wants to come here we don't want to start setting precedent that our word is not good. If he leaves it frees up a space we can use on someone else.

I don't think many would think "our word is not good" if we rescind the offer to Harris given the circumstances. Harris put himself in an awkward position with some of the issues he's had.

If everyone came and no one transferred, we were full for next year. Harris needed someone to leave to make a spot for him.
If Buzz stayed that would not have been a problem because judging by the players comments, we would have had many transfers.

Agree that assembling much of a 2014 class - minus the guys who may stay committed - will be difficult.
Don't think it'll be too difficult to get a solid 2015.
Crean's first class was Wade, ODB, Merritt and Sanders.
KO's first class was Mac, Key, Logterman and Brakes.
A solid 2015 class is definitely possible.

We sorely need an offense minded guard which Hill is. But there is something to be said of keeping a talented WI. kid coming to MU as well. That being said if push comes to shove Hill would be my choice if it came down to one or the other.
