Might as well be the first... TOM CREAN IS OFF TO KENTUCKY!
you beat me to it. @ least crean is still undefeated in this season's campaign
Can they mortgage 1/2 the university (and maybe 1/2 the state) to bring Donovan over? :)
I know the UK job is one of the premier jobs in the country, but the criticism he is taking is what I think makes the job unattractive.
I understand that the team shouldn't have lost at home to a weak team... but people are raging in that state right now (I've also been there about 5 years ago, so I've seen the fan base first hand).
I don't know if Crean ever got the offer from UK, or even if they wanted him (I'm not going to speculate and argue about that).
But, I don't know if the UK job (when considering all of the factors) is really a huge step up from the MU job.
UK definitely has it's advantages, but in modern day sports its disadvantages are often highlighted (crazy fan base, media scrutiny, alumni expectations, contract $$, etc), while it's advantages aren't as great as they once were (national TV coverage, ability to recruit nationwide, strong talent pool in state, etc.).
It's still a great job, but it's going to take a special coach to "weather the storm" from the fans and eventually win them over.
Tough situation for him. That Kentucky team is not very talented. crawford is solid but no where near spectacular. bradley is very solid. Really only have 4 players on the team that showed me anything and 2 of them are Freshamn. Those two freshman are as good a freshman combo as there is in the country.
But on the other hand the lack of talent cannot excuse a lack of defensive intensity and concentration. Additionally, GW had at leat 7-8 uncontested layups where none on Kentucky felt it necessary to get back.
