Title: A+ Start for Wojo
Post by: GooooMarquette on April 02, 2014, 08:41:03 PM
I wasn't sure how optimistic to be when word came out that it was Wojo.  I was a bit disappointed it wasn't Howland, relieved it wasn't Martin, but just not sure what would happen with Wojo.

Well, in just over 24 hours, he has turned me from cautiously optimistic to excited for the future.  Great press conference, praise from all over the basketball world, and now indications that the entire roster will indeed be back!  Wow.

It will be interesting to see what Wojo can do with the incoming recruits, especially Hill and Cohen, but I am optimistic.

He still has lots of work to do, but the beginning has been amazing.  Way to go, Coach Wojo!

Homer only gave him a B+. He must be a tougher grader.

Right on.  If all the players do stay on, who would have predicted it?  Great start by recruiting the guys here first.

After slurping all of Brent's decisions in the past year, even pre-emptively slurping in post-game interviews after losses...his opinion is invalid.

Great start to keep the current players on board.  MU is bigger than Buzz and it is being proven by the current players staying and hopefully the committed recruits take notice.

What really matters is what grade Thunder gave him.

Certainly not if Brent stayed

So buzz has a transfer every year, sometimes 2. He leaves and not one player transfers. Case closed. Guy was a phony.

Most first years coaches run several old players out to open up spots. They want their own players. Nature of the game.  What makes you think Wojo will keep them all?

Well that's great.  I give Homer a D on his "middle school-esque" battery of interview questions today.  As far as Thunder goes, I wouldn't be too concerned about him if his car broke down on the northside, around 2 am.

Guess that's why they call him Homer.

True. I expect at least 1 current and a couple recruits to not be here next year

Damian Saunders was a couple of years earlier when DJ didn't go pro.   Crean oversigned, Dominic stayed, Damian gave MU an excuse to not sign him, he ended up at Duquesne where he did OK.     Mo Creek was theoretical.    TT and Nick Williams had both signed and were let out of their LOI's.

You may be right, but Homer is not that deep of a thinker.

He tweeted "I'm all in" last night.  There are 3 threads on it further down.  Of course, it's an assumption he means he's coming back, but we probably won't get anything more clear for awhile.

Hazel played Buzz's first year and then transferred.  Mark him as staying when Crean left.

Taylor went to Kansas when a scholarship opened up at his dream school (Kansas). Nick Williams (recruited as the "next Dwyane Wade) followed TC to Indiana, stayed 1 year and transferred to Mississippi. Mo Creek was in the following year's recruiting class. Went to IU, really good freshman year followed by 2 marred by injury. Transferred to George Washington and had a solid senior season leading them to the NCAAs. Damian Saunders came earlier and was Crean's DJ Newbill. We over signed and came up with a bogus excuse (he met NCAA standards but not MU's - LOL) to Crean him.

Missing one important piece to that comparison: Saunders was peripherally involved in a situation that gave Crean wiggle room; Newbill wasn't remotely close to a situation that gave Buzz wiggle room. Newbill was simply asked not to attend the school.

I never respected how Buzz criticized him in public.
Saying he would stop practice....for Pat Hazel.
Seems like that should have been kept within the confines of the team.

Sorry but your wrong. Crean said emphatically that Saunders was not denied do to the previous pot possession charge. He said he was denied due to academics - even though he was (very much unlike D Wade) fully qualified.

Let's cut Homer a break. He's job description requires him to drink the koolaide and be proud of it.

The arrest gave MU and Crean the wiggle room to play the academics angle. Everyone, including even someone like you, knows how important wiggle room is when booting a kid. Buzz didn't learn that until after he booted Newbill.

Sure, but when comparing his first Milwaukee radio experience with those in Durham he had to undoubtedly feel it was amateur hour.  He actually had a weekly radio show down here with someone who was employed by the athletic department hosting.

BS. Saunders was coming to MU. The marijuana thing was a non issue. So were his academics as he was fully qualified. The trumped up academic charges were no more real than the "he didn't fill out an application" excuse. We didn't have room so we kicked both guys to the curb. Only difference was there was no outrage here when Crean did it.

I know you're hurting now for being duped by Buzz. In fact, it must kill you for being the exact person you've spent six years ruthlessly mocking. Because of that, I won't antagonize you further.

LOL - "it" wouldn't kill me. I'd do the job myself.
