Title: Dwyane Wade on Wojo
Post by: Tums Festival on April 01, 2014, 05:03:00 PM
From ESPN.com:

"I think it's a great hire from the standpoint of, first of all, he's coming from an unbelievable, unbelievable background of coaches -- being coached under and with one of the best coaches of all time, a coach that I respect so much in Coach K," Wade told ESPN.com during a cover shoot for an upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine. "And I had my time with Wojo in 2008, 2006 as well -- World games and then the Olympics. I think he's a young, fiery coach that has had success as an assistant coach for 15 years and now is ready to try his success as a head coach.

"So I think it's going to be a challenge, but I think this a great hire and it's a hire of someone they could grow with, and you gotta have patience and I think that Marquette has that patience. So I look forward to the time where I'm able to sit down with him and do whatever I can to help him with furthering the university that I love."

That all sounds good, but what kind of shorts was he wearing when he made those comments?

Let's hope Wojo utilizes Wade.  If there's one thing I've been unable to understand the last 10 years, it's the fact that Wade has been virtually non-existent concerning Marquette.  We need to see Wade more @ MU wearing MU gear.  Does anyone know why Wade has been "detached" from the university?  Do Buzz or Crean have that great of a relationship with him?  To me there doesn't seem to be one with Buzz at all.

Not sure what you're talking about.
Wade attended MU Madness a couple of years back and has been on campus at other times.

If you've been paying attention, you'd know that's not true. Wade plugs MU quite a bit.

Wade has been on campus, and gone to games when the Heat were playing the Bucks, but if anything his involvement should go up. With them working together on the Olympic team and judging by Wade's comments on ESPN it seems like they have a pretty good relationship.

Exactly!

Being on campus is one thing, along with visiting a Marquette Madness event, but what I'm trying to get at is recruiting. For example....  Doc River's name was used in connection with the "wooing" of Shaka Smart.  You never hear Wade's name in conjunction with a recruit. At least I never have. How meaningful would it be to a recruit with a visit from Wade to tip the scales in our favor.

Wade and Wojo should sit down quickly and work out a strategy to recruit Stone to MU. Hell Wade could get his buddy LeBron to help on that one.

Maybe Wade was never asked to help.

As an alum and likely donor (I'm assuming he gives to the university), he's not allowed to contact recruits. That would be an NCAA violation.
