Question:
Assuming we lose one recruit and have one transfer, does MU make the tourney next year?
Option 1: YES
Option 2: NO
Option 3: No, but we're better than 17-15 (9-9)
You bet your sweet ass we do! Let's go Marquette!
Can't wait to watch the effect of Wojo on the players. It was really tough this year watching Buzz implode. He seemed to go down hill once the BE season started. The new coach will be a breath of fresh air. The players should love him.
No. It'll be a tough year with multiple transfers and multiple recruits signing elsewhere.
early return - 35/42 feel we have a better season next year - alright, thats a start!
Lack of Fischer for first half may do them in, but watch out for the next year.
You forgot one: Depends on how much Derrick plays.
We will have more than 2 kids gone, I suspect.

Yea but does that really matter if those 3 are Harris, Pierce and Shayok? Im perfectly ok with that.

Harris is probably as good as gone since no NLI.
I hope MU holds onto Pierce. Plenty of minutes at the 5 in the early going.
Man - a resounding 88% thinking a better year than last year - and that's with a .500 conf record - see - things aren't so bad -
SKY"S THE LIMIT!
All depends who Wojo brings in. Don't think it's at all necessary to avoid transfers and recruit releases at all costs, which is why I think it's unwise for some to suggest that his top priority is to hurry up and get everyone that committed to play for Bazz to also commit to play for Wojo, whether he wants them or not. On the other hand, if looking for immediate success we don't want the roster nuked either.
What I am hearing is that all the recruits are waiting to meet with the coach and 7/9 of the returning players are staying no matter what. The remaining 2 are waiting to meet with the coach.
Wojo has previous relationships with three of the recruits, all but Pierce I believe. I think he gets 3/4 of the recruits to stay and 8/9 of the returning players.
Getting any of the verbals: Harris, Noskowiak, and Flory would just be icing on the cake.

Not worried about Flory. Hes a MU lifer.

Also a candidate to be our next coach, too?
Deonte - Fisher - Duane - Dawson - and (sounds like) JuJuan - that's a pretty freaking sold core ole WOJO's walking into - Let's see what he can get out of STJr and Pierce from the frontcourt - and this things gonna be on fire!
We should have made it this year if not for a coach that lost his way. Not much size next year, but in this league we should be making it nearly every year. Next year MU should make it if the right people stay

Agree. In this league, assuming most or all of the current team and incoming recruits remain, we should make the tourney
Sightly surprised at the optimism. New coach. Lose front court and best outside shooter, and not a great recruiting class since likely the whole class will not sign. Doesn't paint the picture of a team that will improve. Kind of the opposite.

Fischer transfer, Duane is healthy, Steve is healthy, Hill and Cohen will probably stay, other recruits are meh anyways. You have no right to comment since you dont even follow the program as close as we do. Plus I would argue that Duane is a better shooter than Jake.

I think we're assuming a better coaching job.
As good a job as Britt did his first five years here, he was that bad last year.
Also, Duane Wilson, Deonte Burton, Jujuan Johnson.
I am very, very confident that we make the tourney if everyone stays.
If we lose 1 or 2 then it will be very tough but still doable depending on the guys and who steps up.
For everybody hoping to see the Freshman assume majority of the minutes next season, you'll be surely disappointed. Wojo preaches defense first which is why the freshman struggled to play consistent minutes this season. Sure everyone starts from scratch now but I wouldn't expect much change in the usage of personnel.

But Buzz's defensive scheme was complicated as all hell. You can still preach defense first and keep it simple.

Yeah. That. How could we not see an improvement? I thought the general consensus before last year was that 2013-14 might have some growing pains but 2014-15, and 2015-16 looked very bright.
man, as a player either coming out of high school or already here, ya gotta ask your self one question-would i want to play for a guy who not only played and excelled at duke under coach K, but now learned how to coach under coach K?? i'd say if you had any aspirations to play at the next level, you'd have to like your chances to succeed right here under WOJO. he was a defensive fiend in college-was awarded coaches assoc. defensive player of the year 1997-98, so, with that being said, i believe we retain those who want to succeed.

Buzz's Defense is no more complicated than any other good coach. His offense on the other hand was simpler and the freshman and Taylor Jr. struggled with learning those plays too.
But I don't think Buzz was good AT COACHING IT - watching some of the videos of him coaching and such - he coached defense like someone who never played the game - only studied it

Assuming you know anything, please tell us why Jamil (who should of known the offense and defense as good as anyone) struggled so badly at the end of the year? Also, why was Gardner such a defensive liability despite being a senior? Why was Chris Otule so poor on offense? You act like the freshmen were clueless but I can sit here and argue the same for the seniors.
I personally hated Buzz's offense. Especially this last year that 4 out perimeter with just passing the ball around looking for skips.

Sure I don't follow as closely as most but probably as closely as plenty of people who comment here.
Fischer isn't eligible until after OOC play and as you saw this year your season can be pretty much already over at that point and until then your front court currently consists of Steve Taylor Jr and no one else +/- Pierce who isn't likely to be an impact player as a freshman. And it's not like Fischer is a proven commodity, a consensus top 100 recruit.
How can you argue Duane is a better shooter when he's never played? off of high school numbers at a different three point line?
Look obviously you're going to be optimistic about your team. And I'm not trying to convince anyone not to be. It's part of being a fan. Just providing an outside perspective. With all the recruits up in the air and the possibility of losing current players from the team to transfer due to the coaching change on paper from the outside it seems like Marquette and Creighton are the two big east teams who seem to most likely to be worse than last year. But the games are not played on paper and I hope Marquette is able to overachieve and help the BE be strong. I'm just sharing my opinion.

Duane is an amazing shooter. Watched him play his sophomore, junior, and senior years here in Wisconsin. Sure, shooting wont translate 100% over, as he shot over 50% from 3 his senior year. But I can promise he will still add some versatility to an offense that had very little last year. Jake Thomas and Derrick provided strengths at a couple roles but had glaring weaknesses as well. Duane at least appears to have less glaring weaknesses and his ceiling is very high.

Not a proven commodity, but Fischer was 71st in the RSCI rankings and thus very much a consensus top 100 recruit.
One service (ESPN) ranked him 34th in the country.

Sorry if I was unclear. I was saying he was just a top 100 recruit as in not a top 25 sure fire recruit or even a top 50 recruit.

Just because they know the offense and defense doesn't make them great at it. The seniors knew their positions thoroughly and knew where they had to be on any given play. Buzz preached playing together on a string and when players came in and didn't know where they had to be, they would mess up the whole offense and defense. Hence the quick trigger on subs. Not saying that's the right way to coach but that's how he coaches. But to the original point, the freshman struggled with defense. Taylor Jr. and Johnson struggled with knowing the plays on offense. Duane was not expected to play big minutes even going into the season for those reasons as well.

I expect Wojo to bring a more rational analysis on who deserves more playing time. It seemed like Buzz was losing his marbles this season, that's all I'm trying to say.
