Title: 20 years ago (today?)
Post by: Richie on March 28, 2014, 06:52:02 PM

20 years ago we were in Knoxville and lost to Duke in the sweet 16; I thought we had a chance! We lose, we go to a bar to drink away our sorrow amidst the fear of KO leaving. Bartender comes up to me, hands me a 16 ouncer and says "that's on him" pointing to a guy at the bar who I have never seen before.

I walk over to him and say thanks, and then "why did you buy me a beer?" He says, and I have never forgotten the inflection of the cocky southern voice "because we are going to steal your coach!" And the bastards did.

I cared then, and I care now a wife and 4 kids later! Can we re-pay the debt 20 years later? Not sure I want to.....

That's a great story. Please, no Cuonzo.

We can let him double up 20 years later, but we can't re-pay the debt.

We would be repaying the debt by staying away from Cuonzo...so Tennessee either is stuck with him or has to buy him out.

The capper is I am so ticked off that we lose I sell my ticket on the way out. Go to the bar after, have a great time and end up staying in Knoxville for the rest of the weekend. I sold my ticket low, and then I bought high because it was Purdue (cuonzo again, plus the Big Dog!) vs Duke and Grant Hill in the regional final.
Moral of the story, never sell your ticket coming off a loss as you walk out!

I'm not convinced he is good enough as a recruiter. Middle
of the pack SEC results. Marquette has and will always need a dynamic
coach capable of bringing in highly rated kids.

I thought MU had that coach until last Friday.

Unless you're in Newark (yuck!) and MU just got blown out by UNC. Selling your ticket to, and making a profit off of a Kentucky fan (just beat OSU) and reminding them of '03 and '08, was about the only highlight of that day.

Man Cuonzo was a sweet shooter at Purdue.

I was in Newark, too.

I was at MU from 85 to 89, the dark ages of basketball. I have never taken our NCAA appearances for granted so I have always tried to get to the ncaa, we never went when I was there. Lebo still sucks!

I will hurt you for this. I don't know how yet, but give me time. A day will come when you think yourself safe and happy, and suddenly your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth, and you'll know the debt is paid.

A Warrior always pays his debts.

If you watched the pre-game tonite they talked about a 36,000 plus signature petition in Knoxville to fire Cuonzo and bring back Pearl.

Based on that I think we might be doing them a favor and not stealing him!

I don't know who I want. I can dream, and then get crushed when it doesn't happen again.

We hear Howland is interested, and we hear that Shaka is not interested. . But we don't know who has inquired about the job and who is seriously being considered. I'm going to hope for something great and spectacular. I'm hoping to watch great MU basketball next year.

I'm going to wait it out and hope I like the new coach, whomever it is.

Yep.
And now there is a new petition to extend Cuonzo's contract.
