Better not be a Friday surprise at 5pm.
Have you given up on Shaka yet Goose? You were the last one standing as I remember.

Although, as Friday afternoons go, this one is a bit different. Usually you try to dump the trash on Friday afternoon to use the weekend to avoid the newscycle.
With games going all weekend, though, this isn't your typical Friday afternoon. A good hire would be talked about throughout the weekend--just look at Buzz showing up during halftime last weekend.

agreed on trying to get him in for media exposure, but i bet they wait until next week for 2 reasons:
1) talk to any of the coaches who they have interest in who might still be playing..
2) parade the new guy around the Final 4 media circuit weekend...

I fear the following... "I am proud to introduce the new Head Basketball Coach of Marquette University, Brian Wardle/Bruce Webber".
No Bruce. Please no Bruce.

Unless their mother is being quoted above, the comment would be a lie.

I see what you did there. Well played.
Have not lost 100% hope on Shaka but think lack of AD hurt the chances on landing him. Excitement level across the board is down right now, not from anything I have heard but more on past track record of schol's decisions.
Trust me, not negative, just worn out and tired of the unknown.

Goose, thanks for your efforts over the last week. I think we should throw our collective efforts behind Coach Howland. It has such a nice ring to it...

Do we could get Dave Rice here for under $1.5M? Better option than most being thrown out. Squirm factor is just a notch below Scott Drew though.

Sounds like the perfect time to announce "Coach Wardle".
People would wake up Monday thinking they had a nightmare.

I hope someday to hear exactly how this process played out. If the seemingly legitimate info is all true, this has been a freaking weird week.

Nor has a restraining order been issued. Any volunteer ambassadors in the area care to negotiate on our behalf?

Are you inferring that all the quotes that the national reporters had from sources were from the school trying to convey a position of strength.
I will be out of touch on scoop for much of the upcoming two weeks and trust you guys to deliver an IMPACT hire while I am gone. Hope we all are jacked up and talking about Diamond Stone being a Warrior in a couple of weeks.
For what it is worth, I have ZERO info I can share on what is going on. Know many of you believe that is par for the course, but I am now advertising I know NOTHING new.
Do hope MU follows Keefe's words and Aim High, Marquette!!
Still Like PASTNER or MICK CRONIN. Aim High What about Dave Rice of UNLV. Don't know much about him. Hopefully not Wardle. But LaVall Jordan sounds interesting. Justin Hutson of SDSU maybe.
Not many high choices out there.
Am I as confused as everyone else?
I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!!!

IMPORTANT: Matt Youmans (UNLV beat writer) now saying if Rice leaves UNLV the top candidates are BH, Theus & SS! Thinks the odds of Rice leaving are 80% and SS is a long shot. Likes Howland or Theus. Money might be an issue with Howland. Could this be the delay with BH?

I can't believe I'm entertaining that he might still be an option but here it goes! So he didn't say no? Did he just let the deadline pass without saying anything or did he need more time or did he put out more requirements for us to meet prior to accepting?
Regardless I've moved on to us hiring Howland but fear that may have also passed.

Why is Rice even interested in the USF job?

So Rice is getting a raise to go to USF to make $1.2M per year, but UNLV can afford Howland? Don't buy it. Not sure why they wouldn't try to keep Rice, unless they're concerned about his squirm factor. Missed the postseason at 20-13 this year, but has the Rivals #7, #15, #32 recruits signed for the fall.

UNLV was paying Kruger $1.4MM before he took off for Oklahoma, so I'd assume if they felt Howland was the right guy they'd be willing to throw a good amount at him, but MU could still probably offer more.

Brent to UNLV?
There is a presser scheduled for next Tuesday...we all know what day that is!
It was said that Rice could almost triple his salary. He is a UNLV alum and played guard for Tarkanian. Fans say he can recruit but not a proven coach yet. He does have a great class coming in.
I just don't see Dave Rice leaving UNLV, the team he played for in college, for USF.
I thought it odd that Youmans (beat writer) said it was 80% Rice was gone. He also stated that Rice was flying back from Tampa now and would probably talk to the UNLV AD tonight. Another writer (LV columnist) chimed in that he thought Rice was definitely gone. Rebel fans are talking about April Fool's day also because that is when Kruger surprised them and went to Oklahoma. Reggie Theus was the other finalist when Dave Rice got hired. Many are saying Rice should take the raise and get out of town because if he doesn't make the NCAAs next year he could get fired - ala the Dan Dakich philosophy.

Are you serious? It's because he's from Cinci, went to Cinci, was an assistant at Cinci, and isn't going to leave Cinci.

...and he's Buzz's buddy.
We can just hire Scott Hamilton or Jeff Garcia and pretend it's Cronin. Pretend Cronin is still better than Cuonzo Martin or Wardle.
